If anyone is interested in seeing Wade's San Diego defense, I noticed that NFL Network is showing SD at. Cincy, SD at Denver, and Denver at SD as Games of the Week all this afternoon starting at 2:30 central time.

I think the Cincy game might've been the one where they gave up 50 points, though.:

Maybe this is a regular thing, but I'm new to this NFLN stuff. :D

I remember that SD vs. Cinn game from last season.

That game was clearly the abberation for SD's defense last season.

Maybe it was an abberation in terms of the performance of the defense, but not of the possible outcome of the games the SD defense played. WP's defenses takes alot of chances, especially when the LB's stunt. The LB's need to be smart enough to know when to decide to stunt if they are called to do so on a given play because if they do rush the passer, and the qb has enough time to see the opening where the LB was supposed to be at had he not stunted, he can pass to that area if a reciever is there and a big play can be given up. That is what happened all day during the cincy game. I think SD was too overzealous in terms of thier defensive play-calling me thinks. The same could happen to us; we could end up taking TOO many chances and put too much pressure on the offense if we give up enough plays.

I don't have NFLN, is TEK2000 or someone could record the "D" and post it, I'd really like to see a perview of what's to come.

I won't have a chance to watch it. If anyone watches it, I'd be curious to know what kind of packages he uses in nickel and dime defenses. Specifically, how many down lineman and how many linebackers.

that is the drawback of a gambling D; a real good QB like Palmer can really eat them up if he gets hot and they don't plant him.

junk -

so far, what i've seen is 3 down linemen, and one rush backer from either side. two Lbers, and 5DBs with 2 deep safeties against 3 wide.

That's on 3rd downs? What techniques are the linemen lined up in? The rush backer is standing up in position as as a typical 3-4 OLB?

dunno, it's the sensationalized production, so they're not giing down and distance. Just looking when Cincy goes three wide.

hard to observe, but they're all moving upfield, and appear to be in a single gap instead of over a man.

yes - on the LOS. They are still in the portion of the game when theyre getting torched - rusihng four and not getting there.

So I assume that some of the 3-wides might have been in non-3rd down situations. It'd be great to have a coach that actually used personnel packages based on what the offense was doing.

I've always thought the game of the week productions were worthless when it came to re-watching the game. The plus side of it is that they show alot of sideline footage with commentary from the players.

The best time to check out a team is when the NFLN has a NFLN Replays. They play the whole game with the actual announcers and they cut out the extraneous stuff.

Tomorrow they're showing SD vs Seattle at 5:30 est.

5:30 p.m. -- NFL Replay
NFL Replay - 2006 Wk 8 - STL @ SD - NFL Replay features four of the most exciting games from the weekend. NFL Replay games air in a 90-minute fast-paced format, without halftime and other elements not critical to the outcome.

Yeah, it's hard to tell too much since they focus on what the average fan wants to see, which is offense. And this was an offensive shootout anyway.

Maybe the next two games will show a little more... Off the top of my head, I don't remember anything about the SD-Denver games.

But SD is missing Merriman in this one... It was during his roids suspension. And boy, is the Chargers secondary average at best.

And thanks for the heads up, WG. That's the game I happened to have recorded, and it shows one or two creative ways Wade frees up Merriman.

WG and Clab are right on - the only observations you can make are off of the three plays where they actually zoom off the QBs enough to see the Dline.

WG's heads up will be interesting as well.
