Below is from the SA newspaper. Sure looks to me like Hurd has solidified a position on the Cowboys so long as he continues to play well. Since TO gave Hurd a lot of help in his rookie season, he must be pleased to see his time wasn't wasted and that Hurd continues to work hard and get better. BTW: On DCFanatic tonight they discussed the fact Hurd had been sent in to replace Terry Glenn when he got hurt rather then Crayton. Apparently Hurd's build along with his speed and hands make him a certain kind of WR who can play the WR position Glenn plays whereas Crayton's build makes him a better slot WR. Go listen to DCFanatic for better understanding.
Coach praises Hurd: Phillips envisions receiver Sam Hurd, a Brackenridge graduate, being more than a special-teams performer this season.
“Sam has been a good special-teams guy for this team, but we have some high hopes for him as a receiver,” Phillips said. “He's done a lot of good things in (offseason workouts). Even when Terry (Glenn) went out today, he made a nice catch in traffic, and he's continually done that.”
Hurd had five receptions as a rookie last season for 75 yards. He also finished with 16 special-teams tackles.
