Not if he has trouble learning more than one position which seems to be the consensus right now.
Do you honestly think that Crayton cannot play any position but the #3?

IMO Crayton would make for an excellent #2. Think Alvin Harper with break away speed. Crayton moves the chains and works well in space.

I can play a #2, but that doesn't mean I would be good at it. I'm not bashing Crayton here, but take the bias sunglasses off. He has shown flashes of great play, but he hasn't exactly been a consistent dominating factor. If he is was next in line to be a #2, then you would see him getting some work at #2. He doesn't. He works at #3 all the time.

He caught 5 balls and played special teams...

We stayed healthy at the receiver position and the game he played in we didnt miss a beat.

Also he was barely 21 in training camp last year. He played division 1 college ball at 17.

He knew almost every position out there and had the attitude to turn himself into a good cover guy on special teams.

He wants to be good and hes doing everything he possibly can to get there.

IF he keeps the same effort he will be a Dallas Cowboy for many years to come because he is developing very nicely.

Not sure how asking a simple question is having bias glasses on...but hey, whatever works for you.

I just find it hard to believe that he could not play #2...my guess would be that since teams go 3 WR so much they view him as a starter by proxy, that is why he and the staff focus on him as the #3 guy. Hopefully this is not too much of a homer post.

Maybe Randal Williams has jaded me, but I need to see real production before I project him as a future staple.

Crayton can easily be a #2 and it wouldnt suprise me if he is a #2 for someone else next year.

He brings a lot to the table.

I'm not sure what nyc is talking about when he says 'it was said' Crayton can't be a starter or that he can't play multiple positions. From everything I can ever recall on the guy, his intelligence and adaptability and his ability to play any WR position is what got thim where he is today, sitting behind two very good players. The only knock on the guy is his straight-ahead speed, and he's got starter written all over him.

Parcells said last year that even if their was an injury that Crayton would NOT become a starter. With Glenn being out in TC and Crayton remaining the #3 with Hurd taking over for Glenn seems to suggest the same thing this year. Parcells noted and someone else mentioned this year that the reason he will not move from the #3 spot is because he would have to learn a new position and they didn't think he could do that while working at #3.

Don't shoot the messenger, I didn't make that claim. I was damn happy the Cowboys made him a (second round?) tender in the off-season. My comments are solely based on what others have said.

I'm not shooting, I just don't know what you're talking about. I'd thought I'd seen everything Parcells said last year, and I don't recall him saying Crayton would not become a starter. Was this prior to the AZ game last year when we were playing from our depth chart and gave Hurd some time in place of Glenn? Ie, was Parcells talking about a single game roster, or about the player's ability and potential generally?

I like BP but BP is not the coach. Crayton has decent 4.4 speed, he runs very good routs and has some of the best hands on this team. Yes he is capable of more than being a #3 WR. With Dallas moving TO around it will also put guys like Crayton in different alignments.

Hurd took over for Glenn and Crayton remained at the #3.

In the end it's all speculation. Parcells is no longer the coach as you noted, but neither are either of us and as they say. Actions speak louder than words. All of Crayton's actions have been as the third wide receiver even when the #2 spot opened up.

I don't claim to be a coach but I will not sell Crayton short of what he is capable of doing

As I noted before, I was happy that the Cowboys offered Crayton a second round tender.

I really like Hurd and think that he can be a very good starter in the future. I think he may have more upside than Crayton. He reminds me a little of Antonio Bryant and Chad Johnson physically.

But with the new terminology that tells players exactly what their suppose to run, all the wrs should know every position, including the TE position. And guys, today Crayton took Glenn's spot, not Hurd.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.......Sam Hurd will someday be enshrined in Canton.

Why?

Because the name "Sam Hurd" just SOUNDS like a Hall Of Fame name.
