but the membership is free to be interested in whatever they choose.
So dog-fighting fanatics like me are still welcome?

In Oct of 2006 they passed a law making it more difficult to transfer money from your bank to gambling websites. The way it used to be you could use 3rd party websites such as Firepay etc to transfer money from your bank to the sportsbook, (the reason you used the 3rd party is because credit cards already didn't allow it and its easier than using regular mail). With the new law the banks and 3rd partys aren't allowed to send or receive funds from US customers.

Anyway, I didn't think it was a big deal at the time but it has made it a lot less convenient. I think you can still mail checks/money orders and they send you the same back. I've been lazy and haven't put anything in my account since last year which is probably good ha.

I just wanted you to be aware of that I guess.

For you guys that use the sites like Bodog, Sportsbook etc, how do you handle sending/receiving funds?

Because of that crap, I wasn't able to transfer $300 to my betting account to bet on the Cowboys vs. the Jets in 2003. Of course, we won 17-3 and I was somewhat pissed afterwards.

It depends on the site.

Two years ago I used the now defunct betonsports, and they required an email/fax copy of your DL, a signed letter, and photo ID. After you did that, they'd pay out anything over $50 by money order.

Last year I used bodog, and while Bodog required basically nothing to create an account, if memory serves, they wanted you to jump through 50 hoops to get the money out....which irritated the piss out of me. They wanted faxed copies of stuff (who the hell uses a fax in 2006?) for every withdrawal.

This year I've been using sportsbook. Their straight odds tend to run a little behind bodog, but their parlays are bar none (even paying out on slightly missed parlays) and theres no red tape to cash out. You get one free cashout a month, each additional is $40....but unless you're winning a nice $2k parlay, what's the rush? They pay by check, and I've cashed out twice and gotten it within the week.

I personally prefer as little hassle and as much anonymity as humanly possible, so that's why i've settled on sportsbook......but if any of you have suggestions, I'd love to hear them.

edit: And sportsbook allows you to still use your Visa card directly, and last I checked bodog did as well. The only faults in that are based on your state of residence and your bank.

I put down a little on Dallas to win the Super Bowl at 20-1 (mysportsbook.com). My original plan was just to bet them to win the NFC thinking that was more likely with the watered down conference. Well the NFC odds were only 6-1. My thinking was the extra 14-1 was MUCH higher than anything I'd get at gametime if the Boys actually made the Super Bowl so it seemed like the beter bet.

And by the way, I've had NO probelms doing bank transfer withdrawals from that site. I made several pretty large withdrawals after March Madness that went through just fine.
