He uplifted a 1-10 team overnight. I don’t know about you but that’s deserves instant credibility with me. And he’s much more prolific passing QB. And it was 5 games wasn’t it?
I believe Jimmy G in San Fran received some generous impetus from the officiating crews in those first couple of "W" he'd racked up.,,, Now this is a meaningless point of non interest to most fans but a week or so back on sports radio they were talking about him going full bore rock star, runni,,,er,,,dating adult flim actresses & radio guy was going on about how that's not the proper 'look' the league wants presented to the public & his actions should qualify for disciplinary measures under the that 'conduct detrimental to the shield' statute contained within the morass of the HOLY SCROLLS,,,,radio guy said he was from San Francisco & a 49 fan TOO,,, so,at least our #4 has got that high ground of (apparent)strong moral character going for him, heading into this seasono_O

I don't know if you classify the trade with Seattle to be able to draft Tony D as a blockbuster, but it was definitely a significant trade at the time. I don't remember exactly what they gave up.

The Walker trade was unprecedented. There is no reason to think Tex would have got what Jimmy got out of MN. Jimmy caught a lot of flak for that trade b/c trading your best player was pretty much not done in the NFL back then.

We stole Tony D.
Yep, but only because of what Dorsett became and what Seattle did with the acquired picks, which was whiff. Actually, the trade, valued on today's draft chart value system, was just about a wash. We gave up the 14th, 30th, 41st and 54th picks for the 2nd. That's 2570 collectively vs. 2600 for the #2.

I suspect there was a measure of confidence on the MN side because they thought they were dealing with a neophyte NFL GM and coach. That wouldn't have been the case with Tex and Landry. My guess is MN would've been very suspicious if Dallas was willing to trade Walker and, consequently, not been as eager to give up as much.

We are starting to see the annual pre-season predictions from almost all the usual media reps. I’m always amused by not only the predictions but even more so by the fans who scream “disrespect” because their favorite team was predicted to crash and burn. If a writer gives a good prediction, he’s “credible”; if not he’s “an idiot”. Everyone wants their team to be respected and that’s understandable.

This summer’s predictions that I’ve read as a collective group seem to have our Cowboys as high as 12-4 and as low as 7-9. ESPN local writer Todd Archer has us at 10-6 and a WC team. Dallas Morning News’ Jon Machata has us at 9-7 and out of the playoffs. Big whoop. I believe the Cowboys have enough talent to make some noise. Do they have the coaching? We will see.

Honestly, I put ZERO credibility into any of these predictions, good or bad. The NFL is the toughest pro sports league to predict. Raise your hand if you had the Jaguars last year in the AFC Championship? This year, they are one of “sexy” picks which usually means they won’t make the playoffs.

The reason the NFL is so hard to predict year to year is because the difference between a SB winner and a non-playoff team is not that far talent wise. Unlike the NBA or MLB, the talent pool in the NFL is spread pretty evenly, and the way the salary cap is managed these days, teams have a lot of turnover from year to year. Every year in the NFL is a new adventure.

My main point is this- None of us know what teams will be in the SB this year, but as far as getting some of that “RESPECT” that all fans crave, there’s literally only one way to get it with the media: WIN in the playoffs. Get at least to a conference championship game. And guess what? That’s actually fair. You want respect? Earn it by winning some playoff games. This team hasn’t won two playoff games in a season since Barry Switzer was packing heat in his suitcase at the airport.

Here’s a few links to some pre-season predictions...if you care to imbibe. LOL!
1. SI- https://www.si.com/nfl/2018/06/07/nfl-schedule-2018-team-record-predictions-analysis
2. Dallas MN https://sportsday.***BANNED-DO-NOT-...018-schedule-will-even-year-kind-dallas-again
3. CBS Sports https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/...game-for-every-team-plus-super-bowl-champion/

Respect is earned by winning in January. We will get zero respect until that happens. And again, that’s fair! Let’s go Cowboys!

I personally dont care about getting respect. Its a great feeling to get it but to work for it is not the way to live your life.

And especially i dont care what the media writes about the dallas cowboys. This is all about creating stories mainstream people read so they can create revenue. You cant get any meaningful or interesting thoughts out of that. And to create an argument over that crap is a waste of time.

Are we contenders? Can we win a SB ? Let just believe we can. Talk about your believes here. Enjoy the season. And dont read all that crap that gives medicore people without character a job. And dont waste any nerves on people who dont share their real thoughts rather then trying to create clickbait.

Dont follow twitter. Dont read it! People will stop posting things nobody cares about. Dont give such flippancy room to grow.

Enjoy football the way its meant to be: the sport. The emotions. The work. The hits. The pain. The sacrifice. And maybe the success. Which to me in essence is what makes me want to follow this sport.

Forget all the blabla.
Dont help them create revenue thru stupid postings.
Focus on what you really enjoy!

Go Football.
Go Cowboys!

It was the bidding war that got his price so high. Jimmy had not intended to trade him(his own words), but then the bidding started. Den, wasn't it? I think there were 3 teams jacking up the price.

The genius of the trade was that Jimmy had draft picks assigned to each of the players MN sent over. So, if they didn't play, we got the draft pick instead. It never occurred to Mike Lynn that he was sending over that many picks. He got snookered when Jimmy intentionally cut the players. Tex and Landry would never have thought of something that devious. The Seattle trade was fair. The seahawks simply squandered the picks.

Ahh, I forgot about that. I remember MN squealed about us cutting the players, but forgot why. Nice post.

Minnesota thought, incorrectly, that the cowboys would use the players because we had such a weak team. but jimmy intended to not play them, choosing instead to get the draft picks. smart move on jimmy's part.

At the time, I couldn't understand for the life of me why some of those guys were not getting on the field. Who was that LB? Jessie something, wasn't it? Kid was a beast.

Which makes it really really laughable when people try to claim that Jimmy never tanked for draft picks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

jesse Solomon. legend in his own mind. jimmy actually has a genius i.q. it showed when he was coaching. he not only out coached the rest of the league, he out thought them as well.

I call the unspoken (spoken?) rule against intentional tanking the Jimmy Johnson rule. Suck for Luck!

Tanked means to lose intentionally. I'm not sure I would stretch that into not playing guys who have never played for you before.

He was building a team and felt the draft picks had more value to the future of the franchise than the MN players. Thats not tanking. Its smart management. He could have played those guys and we might have won 4-5 games and had nothing to show for it.

I'll take your's Bobhaze and one up you, who in their right mind EVER thought the egglets would not only be in, but win the SB? Predicting NFL winners and losers, is about as silly as predicting the weather. I never pay attention to any of it.
