You write like you did not watch AoN. Garrett repeatedly harangues his players for poor play and practice and they listen with heads down and despondent looks on their faces. Leaders repeatedly picked up where he left off after.

And you can tell yourself that Garrett is not a HC but that is delusional. Live in the world as it is not how you think it should be.
Fuzz, I agree with you that Garrett has done a pretty good job of developing players. Better than most think. But as an NFL HC, he’s been mediocre at best, and after 7 full seasons, only making the playoffs twice would make him unemployed by every other NFL team except the Bungles.

I don’t hate Garrett, and I think he deserves some props for some things he’s done. But I can’t call him a good NFL HC at this point until he proves otherwise with some playoff wins. Playoff wins are the bottom line- the “coin of the realm”.

You can tell yourself he is, but... neither of us will agree on that one.

The one thing I criticize JG for the most is lack of solid depth. When our QB is healthy, check his winning percentage because it's damn good. When the QB is out and we rely on a back up, it's horrible. Night and day. I think that's half the battle. Keeping your premier starters on the field.

We are starting to see the annual pre-season predictions from almost all the usual media reps. I’m always amused by not only the predictions but even more so by the fans who scream “disrespect” because their favorite team was predicted to crash and burn. If a writer gives a good prediction, he’s “credible”; if not he’s “an idiot”. Everyone wants their team to be respected and that’s understandable.

This summer’s predictions that I’ve read as a collective group seem to have our Cowboys as high as 12-4 and as low as 7-9. ESPN local writer Todd Archer has us at 10-6 and a WC team. Dallas Morning News’ Jon Machata has us at 9-7 and out of the playoffs. Big whoop. I believe the Cowboys have enough talent to make some noise. Do they have the coaching? We will see.

Honestly, I put ZERO credibility into any of these predictions, good or bad. The NFL is the toughest pro sports league to predict. Raise your hand if you had the Jaguars last year in the AFC Championship? This year, they are one of “sexy” picks which usually means they won’t make the playoffs.

The reason the NFL is so hard to predict year to year is because the difference between a SB winner and a non-playoff team is not that far talent wise. Unlike the NBA or MLB, the talent pool in the NFL is spread pretty evenly, and the way the salary cap is managed these days, teams have a lot of turnover from year to year. Every year in the NFL is a new adventure.

My main point is this- None of us know what teams will be in the SB this year, but as far as getting some of that “RESPECT” that all fans crave, there’s literally only one way to get it with the media: WIN in the playoffs. Get at least to a conference championship game. And guess what? That’s actually fair. You want respect? Earn it by winning some playoff games. This team hasn’t won two playoff games in a season since Barry Switzer was packing heat in his suitcase at the airport.

Here’s a few links to some pre-season predictions...if you care to imbibe. LOL!

Respect is earned by winning in January. We will get zero respect until that happens. And again, that’s fair! Let’s go Cowboys!

You don't get to speak for 31 other teams. 2 years ago he was the HCofY.

The offense has been pretty good over his tenure particularly after he rebuilt the line. The defensive rebuild has taken far too long but I am finally seeing some talent on that side of the ball with multiple pass rushers and cover guys.

I don't hate Garrett either and would like to see him promoted to assistant GM because there are a lot of things he dose well , but we need a Game Day coach when we get to the playoffs . He just is not it on that stage. When everyone is good he gets exposed adjustments ,preparation . He is a weak link on Game day in the playoffs no way around it . He makes nobody better but our opponents .

I think most of us understand Garretts weaknesses especially on Game Day but this is part of the dysfunctional organization we have to overcome with Jerry’s ways.

And why I always promote Plan B which is assembling as much talent at the key positions as possible because Jerry isn’t going to bring in a HC who’d steal the limelight from him.

Garrett is already like a Walk Around GM. Unfortunately Jerry isn’t going to attract or pursue the type of HC we’d all want.

None who could recieve more credit than Jerry unless the revenue is threatened or the team totally collapsed like 1-7 or 5-11 Funk. This is who we are now with Jerry.

This would be a great year for our Cowboys to steal destiny from a few times, such as Philadelphia, the Rams, and Atlanta...for example.

They have to do it, but hitting an opponent in the jaw, and when he gets up...do it again. Then, black 'n blue December, setting the consistency record straight.

Do you believe in the idea that head coaches should ultimately be judged by playoff wins? If winning in the playoffs isn’t the goal, what is the goal?

I'm not interested in "judging." I am interested in future outcomes and I think this team can compete with the Eagles, Falcons, Packers, Rams, and anyone else in the NFC.

I also think that judging the HC the day before TC opens to be a colossal waste of time. There are better times to grind the proverbial axe.

I think Garrett is a middling HC and the wrong choice to be consistently competitive in an absolutely stacked NFC. I do add the caveat that most coaches worth anything are not going to come to Dallas while Jerry's the GM, de facto or otherwise.

Well sure, we all want that and I think the Cowboys can compete with anyone this year. But how should an NFL head coach be evaluated? I say by winning playoff games. If you don’t agree that’s fine, I’m just trying to clarify what you believe.

A head coach who has been with his team for 11 years better have a lot more to show for it than 0 divisional round wins and a shoddy record without a #1 QB.

It's not about how it is about when. The players recently arrived in Oxnard for a new season and here you are trying to complain about the HC. You've heard the term wet blanket right?

I think it depends on the franchise, their history and recent success.

Ultimately everyone’s goal is to win a Super Bowl but only 1 team can meet that realization.

Obviously the Browns goal this year isn’t what the Patriots are.
