I read a post on a file sharing forum about how this guy burned a copy of "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" for his dad, but neglected to include the subtitles. His father watched the whole movie of monkeys grunting at each other.

I stopped after watching halfway thru the 2nd one. Couldn't stop laughing.
i think i am with you - but not sure if serious. :)

i love planet of the apes. most of them anyway. whalburgs could never have been done and that would be cool but anyway...

the last one they did to setup this one - it got pretty stupid when "war" broke out and it looked like animated chimps gone nuts. i hated the scene where they were swinging at each other (apes that is) while others ran by on horses w/guns and it just got weird.

this one seems to have that potential and that will make me sad.

I laughed because Apes with limited weapon technology can outthink man's technology. The USA, the most advanced and richest country on earth can't find apes living together in a forest.

Is there even still a U.S.A. at that point? From what I remember, there's a virus wiping humans out between the first and second movies.

So the virus whiped out the US government?

Apes living in the USA, the `apes starting in San Fran (1st movie). Where else would they commune in what forest? Canada or South America? 2nd film I wasn't paying much attention if they left for another country.

These movies are so horribly bad.
The 1968 version was the best.
These movies don't hold a candle to the originals,

The best scene was in Dawn when apes jumped down from upper floors through atrium.

What I want to see is at the end of this movie... they nuke the planet and you see the Statue of Liberty on the beach.

Then they show ship leaving planet as it explodes.

All I am expecting from these movies is to pay homage to originals.

They bring nowthing good/new to the table.

As bad as Wahlberg's POTA was... if you read enough about the ending... it had the inspiration to be real good... it just wasn't.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes (2nd Movie) takes place 10 years after the first. They're still in San Francisco.

The story says that the virus epidemic has already wiped out 99% of the global human population in just 10 years. Chances are that no governments survived.

To each his own, but I can't think of a worse way to approach a reboot than to try and reimagine the beloved iconic scenes from the originals.

We already saw what an "homage" looks like in 2001's Planet of the Apes with Mark Whalberg, and I thought that movie was pretty bad.

On that, found a site detailing it...

From the news reports and the map we can see a couple odd things most of them having to do about time.
1.Why did it take from 2011-2019 to get all of America infected if most flus can spread easily in under 3 months?
2.Why would it take that 9 years to spread around the globe?
3.Why did the Simian Flu take 3 years to spread from London to Europe?
4.Why is the dates different from the movie?
5.Why did Russia seem to not be majorly infected on the map?

(my view, even at the very beginning when the virus started, I'm sure the US government would have zeroed in on the apes moving into the forests and wiped them out. (satellite technology, heat sensor technology, etc)

I throw in the comparison AFTER THE FACT. Not watching it for the first time. I went in with open mind.

That's why I can actually say that the first movie is good. The ending was nice twist.
But to start the 2nd movie as you said 10 years later. Not a fan.

Epidemic - most wiped out - here we are apes galore.
No like.

2001 was bad. It had better idea though. Just didn't translate to screen well.

My homage comment was because I got nothing else from it so I wanted to see if they could AT LEAST find a cool creative way to do that.

Like you said. You like. I don't. All good.

This is an interesting discussion.

I kind of see it the way one might see a zombie outbreak, except in this case, there's a zombie outbreak AND smart monkey's somewhere in San Francisco.

I'm sure the military decided the outbreak was more important and dealing with some pesky monkeys, especially if you're looking at it from a global lens.

As to the timeframes, etc. of the plague spreading, I can't really speak to that. Could be that they just didn't do their homework. I never really considered how quickly the plague spread as a main focus on the story, what was important that 99% of humanity was wiped out, which made room for the apes to take over.

Well, genetically enhanced monkies that lead to a worldwide virus outbreak, would be a red flag I'm guessing. And monkies gathering weapons into a forest too.

If memory serves, it's a human that spread the outbreak though, not the monkeys. The monkey's aren't contagious and don't spread the virus, it's passed from human to human – so I'm not sure why humans would decide to target apes in San Francisco when the disease is spreading around the world.

I doubt that the monkey's would even make the front page in a world where the human population is quickly going extinct due to a virus outbreak.

I enjoyed the first of this new trilogy. It had some heart, dealt with the age old question of scientists playing god, and gave some nods to the 1968 classic, while being entirely its own thing. The second movie didn't do much for me. It didn't have much heart, or any real clever ideas going on in the background. It was just a big, fat, loud, in your face, mindless, overdone CGI action movie. Like was said above, I found it to be laughable at times. I hope the this new movie isn't as dumb. I'll watch it though, because I've watched all the rest. I'm a huge fan of the Planet Of The Apes franchise. I even watched the cool little short lived Saturday morning cartoon.

Weird how drastically opinions can differ. Dawn sittin 90% on RottenT, critically acclaimed. Andy Serkis proving that you don't have to have a human lead to make a good movie.

Dawn was the best movie of 2014 imo. Fantastic. One of those very few movies I go to see twice. Big step up from Rise. Rise was good but had lots of little issues that were just silly. Mounted Police Horse Calvary charging into Gorillas? What?
Hard to top Dawn imo, but hopefully this movie can be near as good.
