It's interesting to compare DeMarcus Ware's first six games to his past seven games. Here are his stats, according to the Cowboys' defensive coaches --

GAMES 1-6
4.0 sacks
3 quarterback pressures
3 tackles for loss (minus-4 yards in losses)
15 total tackles

GAMES 7-13
0.0 sacks
14 quarterback pressures
6 tackles for loss (minus-12 yards in losses)
36 total tackles

Although he hasn't had a sack in seven games, he leads the team in pressures over that span (Ellis is second with eight) and has added six more TFL. Nobody else on the team has more than three TFL for the entire season. And he has more than doubled the number of tackles per game he's been in on, compared to the first six games. Also, two of his pressures in Games 7-13 resulted in interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown. (He had a third QB pressure that created an interception, but it was wiped out by a penalty.)

those sacks have turned into pressures due to

a. He is slowing down over this very long NFL season
b. He is getting chipped or doubled EVERY time

I would say he has had a VERY good year and deserves to be a pro bowl alternate at OLB behind Derrick Brooks and Lance Briggs.

Thanks Adam, I had just been complaining on another board about Ware's apparant lack of production over the last 7 games, this helps clear that up.

As always, you are Da Man.

Ware has improved every game this year. He is twice the player now than he was in San Diego. Teams have to prepare for him and do so by double teaming him.

I wish we would get creative with him in blitz packages. It seems like he is either covering or a hand down DE...thats not making the offenses think too much...

Can't wait to see him next year after an offseason of hitting the weights and learning the system. He's gonna be a beast!

I agree with this. I'd love to see him on a stunt blitz where just before the snap he backs off like he is in pass coverage then at the snap loops around for a blitz.

I must say, those are some pretty nice stats, thanks Adam, as always.

I'd love to see his stats compared to Merriman, in the same manner, if you have that access.

This offseason, Ware needs a tutor. He needs to get with Charles Haley, LT (if the fool can show up in Big D), or (better yet) Dwight Freeney. Freeney you say? Could you imagine how deadly Ware could become if the learned how to master that spin move of Freeney's?

I think what a lot of people don't realize about Ware is that in the first few games, he proved he was a defensive threat and in the last few games, teams have been game-planning around him. Not to mention, there are a lot of times he beats his blocker but stays in his area to provide containment which Parcells favors.

Anyone who would base their evaluation of Ware strictly on sacks would be very limited in their thinking.

The team as a whole is still learning how to play and react instead of think inthe new scheme. Ware will get there, as they all will at some point next year. When that happens, all those pressures will lead to a direct sack by Ware or a pressure right into Sprears, Canty, Ellis or Glover for a sack.

We are making strides and looking poised for a bright future. I know many want that future now, but your just going to have to wait. It will be worth waiting for too.

Good post. It's the Fantasy Football mindset. Same thing happened with Witten earlier this season. if anything Witten is better this year than last year. The numbers do not reflect it. Numbers are not everything.

Ware is doing well. That being said he was taken to school by the Chiefs last week. Watching the game on NFL Network last night, they did a number on him!

It also goes to show that stats don't tell the whole truth. I watched the NFL game of the week on the NFL channel last night. Of course it was the Dal/KC game, and the whole second half the OC and OL coach of the Chiefs were changing blocking schemes so they could account for Ware.

I watched NFL network and I saw hm get around roaf a couple of times and just missed Green.... one play he slapped L Johnson out of the way and just missed a sack on Green again..... He's gonna be bad tough in another year or two!

I watched the Replay last night and I noticed that Ware was getting too far upfield on his rushes. He was coming off the edge and his initial push was taking him past the QB and he was ending up a couple yards beyond the play. He needs to develop some power moves to the inside or a good spin move to go along with the speed rush. If he could show that speed to the outside and have a good change up move where he would burst back inside the tackle then he will be in the QB's face a bunch.. It'll come he's just a pup..
