you really that obtuse?

no I am smart. But you on the other hand would ruin the team with your wall of fame treatment of a current player. "at the expense of a competitive team no less."

*This* the the kind of junk I hate most about watching a HoF player of the caliber of Demarcus Ware near the end of his career. There's no place for that sort of derision in a fanbase, in my book. Just respect what the guy did, and understand that there's going to come a point where he cannot do it anymore.

Huh?? Your line of thinking is the exact reason we hold onto these old players for so long and give them contracts they are not worthy of. This is a business. This is a young man's game. Players come and go. No big deal. Cut him and move on.

That is where we get into trouble. Holding onto the past. Something the good teams don't do. Patriots would have already gotten rid of Ware. And let another team give him a contract for the downside of his career. He's worth not even close to what he's giving him.

No it's not. I've said the exact opposite in this very thread. I just don't have a lot of respect for the mocking name calling of great Cowboys players.

Its only Feb, Cowboys put off these things until training camp starts

To have an excuse to sit out training camp.......You know it's coming

This is how this team rolls. Seriously, he needs to get his *** under the knife. I don't want to hear this crap coming up again in July. I damn sure don't want to see him taking every other play off during the season. You don't want to take a paycut, then get ready to give it your all so you don't retire a career loser. There is a reason Irvin called him out last week.

I love Ware as a player, but he has ZERO leverage. If Dallas cuts him March 11th he is owed ZERO dollars. He would be a Free Agent, but what kind of contract would he get? 3/18m maybe, with 6m guaranteed. Why not just stay in Dallas, where he says he wants to be for 6m this year and 6m next year(unless he misses time in 2014 to neck or elbow injuries). Dallas loses nothing by playing hardball. but they risk a ton of money and salary cap space if he only restructures and gets hurt again. It's just business.

Well we can agree to disagree. I grew up with Irvin, Emmitt and Aikman. Along with Haley, Woodson, Nate and all the others from the 90s. I have great respect and memories of them.

I won't have any memories of this bunch. Even Ware. He put up numbers and that's fine. But made no real memories. No one remembers stat sheets down the line when you look back. It's what memories did they create. And these produced none. Aside from that month to end the 2009 season where got a single playoff victory.

So yeah, I am not going to treat these guys like the true greats of this franchise.

What I'm concerned about is that he waits until training camp is almost here, then suddenly he or someone else decides that he needs surgery after all. That leads to him missing or limited during training camp or maybe even the start of the season, then we hear all season how his recovery from surgery and lack of training camp is why he's not playing well next season.

Same scenario concerns me as well. Then we will all have this same debate before the 2015 season if he should be cut or not. Either get the surgery now or not at all, don't want to see any more excuses for performance.

I've noticed. He's a Hall of Fame player, though, without regard to how you choose to treat him. If you can't recognize a great player for what he is, that's on you.

Serious question. What makes him a HOF player? I truly believe Jerry...and many of the fans....have no idea how inept this era of Cowboy football has been. It has been so inept, many have been tricked (by Jerry) into viewing the game of football as purely entertainment. But like I have said many times....I have to applaud Jerry's ability to pull this off. Clearly, since he does not view himself as the biggest problem, clearly he views the Cowboys as an entertainment vehicle....where football is one of the many things he offers fans. Because his bottom line speaks for itself. And because his bottom line is flush with cash...it just keeps buying him time to play fantasy football with the sports division of his entertainment empire.

He's had a bad "last 2" seasons.... and getting worse... Not good especially in light of the news that he still hasn't scheduled surgery that he know he needs.

If football isn't entertainment, then exactly what is it?

Time to move on from Ware.

Maybe he could sign on with a team next year that has a shot at the big game.

I would like to think for players that put their body and long term health on the line every time they take the field...I would like to think it is more than entertainment for them. If that is what it is about...there are far more safe and less painful ways to provide/be entertained. And I will also add their are much cheaper ways for fans to be entertained if enterainment is ALL this is about.

That's why he should be release. Dallas' GM needs to realize this and move on. Ware has been great for the team, however he is not getting any younger and the Organization must soon compensate Dez and Tyron.

The HoF question is really academic, but I think he's already going to get in based off of his accomplishments so far. He was the second fastest player to 100 sacks, behind only Reggie White. He's a 4 time first team All Pro and a 7 time pro bowler. He might not get in when it's all said and done, but he's more than earned the respect of Cowboy fans everywhere.

Not sure where you're going exactly with the Jerry-views-Cowboys-as-enterainment angle as it pertains to Ware, but it's beside the point I'm trying to make, if anything. I just don't like fans clowning on players when they're no longer able to deliver. I think it's classless. And not just because they're Cowboys players.

These guys get paid a lot of money, but they also work very hard to be the very best in the world at something a lot of people really want to be good at. They're all impressive, and the best of the very best of them have abilities that deserve respect. I know it's just a sports message board, and that Demarcus Ware isn't actually hurt by blackspider trying to fit in by disrespecting his accomplishments, but that's not really the point. It's not about not hurting Demarcus' feelings. It's about appreciating the game and how hard it is to play. And about not making yourself look small for criticizing someone for doing something difficult at a level you'll never be able to approach in your wildest dreams.

I mean 'you' collectively here, and not you in particular, bailey, if that's not obvious. :)

People take it too personally. It's a business. He is getting insanely compensated for his hard work. Millions of people put in just as much hard work and make 1/2 of 1% of what he makes. I don't feel sorry for him when his career is over. Teams cannot afford to overpay for past production. They can barely afford to pay market value for 3-5 players. They need to get tremendous production from players on their rookie deals and players on their second contracts. Third contracts need to paid by other teams.

agree. You want to get surgery done ASAP and get back to using the limbs that have to go thru rehab. There is 80% and there is 100%. Big difference there and let me tell you the more time at near 100% the better. You want to be 100% well before training camp if you have the opportunity. This news makes me sick. Unless of course we just release him. Then I'm fine lol

I am not clowning him. I just think that if he does not take a paycut...we should move on. And I took the Jerry-views-Cowboys-as-enterainment angle because I am amazed how anyone in this era of Cowboys football can be mentioned in the same sentence with Hall of Fame. The fact that we think anyone on this roster is a hall of fame player speaks to how Jerry has been able to get some fans to view this as something other than success on the field. Great player in his prime. Not much of a leader. Not much of a winner. And for Cowboy fans that have witnessed true Hall of Fame players....we all know that physical ability does not comprise the entire equation. I could go on and on...but I was done with this group when Keith Brooking came to the team and was IMMEDIATELY elevated to team leader. Look at the Steelers, Pats, Giants.....teams with multiple Super Bowls in the past 10 years....NEVER...NEVER have the held on to players....win or lose. And they win/won. We trot out the SAME core...that has not ever won NOR made a Super Bowl run...so why keep rewarding this nonsense?!
