No it wouldn't. His cap hit next year is 16 million, the dead money is 8 million. By making him a june 1st cut we pay

3,253,750 in 2014
5,817,750 in 2015

We save nearly 5 million in 2014 by cutting him, and then we save 11 million in 2015.

It's a strong move, and it's a necessary one.

I see...
I thought it was much worse than that.
Thank you.
I don't think they do it, whether it's the right thing to do or not though.

lol...what an intelligent debate that was

While I agree with your assessment of Ware, I still actually think OC's think highly of him. Think of every time we play on national TV, there always seem to be talk about how great he is. We're tough on him because he's right under our microscope, and while he's not quite the player he used to be, he's still not as bad as we're making him out to be.

Which is why we should try to trade him while he still has value.

This thread makes me sick.

First game he has missed in his entire career and he is suddenly washed up and expendable.

5 minutes after the Cowboys released him he would be a starter on any of the other 31 teams in the league ........ every single one.

This May be the strangest thing of all about our season.

Hatcher has six sacks. Selvie has four and a half. Ware has four. I love how others have stepped up.

Hatcher with 6 sacks through 7 games...I hadn't realized he had that many. He hasn't gone Watt-like, but he's gone a little Geno Atkins-like. Boy have we needed it.

That's what I was trying to point out. We've had some guys really step up this season.

I never intended this thread to be an indictment on Ware.

Even though Hatcher is 32, I think we need to try to extended him for a year or two if he comes cheap. Like someone said, he's playing Geno Atkins-ish. You need a pass rusher up the middle in this 4-3 scheme. The other DT is usually a bigger guy who eats up bodies. We need to find a replacement at DT for the future, but I think Hatcher deserves another year or two to be a force. Plus, you can't expect any DT, not even a 1st rounder, to step up and be a star his rookie year. As far as DEs go, I think Selvie is a solid #2. Ware can probably play pretty solid for another year or two, but we really need a star edge rusher in this upcoming draft. I say 1st round go DE and 2nd round go DT. Sit the DT behind Hatcher. Split reps with the DE and Ware.

Why in the world would Hatcher come cheap? In typical Cowboys fashion he is having a absolute whale of a season in his contract season. He is on pace for 12-15 sacks which is absolutely incredible for a 4-3 DT.

He is going to garner a huge contact in the offseason for who-ever signs him. Can the Cowboys afford it?

So do we do what we did with Spencer and franchise him until he's done?

This will be Hatcher's last significant contract. He would not extend for a year or two, he should be looking for the big one. Dallas is in a tricky position with him. They can't afford to keep him and can't afford to let him walk. Franchise tag might be the best option, I don't know. What I do know is that he is extremely valuable to this defense.

We should make the move, but our smoke and mirrors defense will be exposed unless the the secondary steps up. The rat thing is still foremost in most fans minds.

That's all the Cowboyszone is of late is who to get rid of lol. Who to cut. Now Ware has made his way on to one of those guys. Never thought i'd see that day. I guess its his lack of "meaningful sacks".
