Ware vs. Meriman, how about Lawson vs. Carpenter

No doubt, it's already been proven how big of a mistake drafting Ware over Merriman was. Meriman getting 3 sacks against Gallery (a franchise tackle). Ware didn't even get a single pass rush.:laugh2:

How about this:
Manny Lawson, LB SF

News: 49ers LB Manny Lawson, the team's No. 22 overall pick in the draft, had seven tackles in his first NFL game. Lawson, a defensive end in college, also showed his speed when he raced 20 yards down the field to defend a pass to Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald that fell incomplete.

Analysis: Lawson has the potential to be a Fantasy stud in IDP leagues. If he starts to string together a few good games, consider inserting him into your lineup on a regular basis.

That against Carpenter who didn't even suit up, yet start in his first NFL game. :(

Parcells looks like he's lost his touch on his old talent of picking the LT's,Carsons, Banks and McGinests.

A couple of things.

1st: Merriman got his sacks in the following manner.....

- He beat Lamont Jordan one-on-one.

- Outside pressure flushed Brooks up the middle and right into Merriman's lap. He basically mopped up.

- He beat the RT but Brooks slipped out of his grasp initially ... he turned to escape the other way but Gallery couldn't get out of his own way let alone Brooks' ... and he basically was forced to turn back into Merriman (tripping over him) and Merriman simply had to reach up and help him down.

The Chargers had 6 sacks seperate of Merriman's 3. It was a jail break all night. Merriman is certainly not the only player to be accounted for on that defense ... as illustrated by him being blocked by a RB, ect.

Ware already had a 3 sack game to his credit ... and forced fumbles on all 3 of the to boot. He also had 9 total tackles in the game. He was turned loose that day. Unfortunately, him being turned loose in our scheme is the exception rather than the rule.

2nd: Robert Gallery has proven he's a franchise LT? :lmao2:

As far as Carpenter and Lawson ... it's far too early to tell. Mike Vrabel (who Carpenter's game has been compared to) was castoff from the Steelers and went on to start for 3 super bowl championship teams as an ILB/OLB.

What about Spears? the guy has been SILENT for too long.
I think Spears is playing pretty dang good IMO. He Canty and Ferguson are building a wall for teams to try to get through. If you're expecting sacks, don't.. Not his position in this scheme.

He doesn't play a glamor position so he won't be making a big splash. In addition his interview right before the season began he stated he was finally healthy now.

why do we keep debating who we could've had. Hindsight is such a thing of beauty isn't it. I'm glad we took Ware. I'm pretty indifferent on Carpenter. I just hopes he turns into a solid Pro, however, if he doesn't, our defense isn't dependent on him becoming a Pro-Bowl player.

I'll offer my two cents.

Playing Madden online, I get to experience alot of different players, since I try to win with every team. I played with the 49ers the other night, and I've got to tell you, that Lawson was a beast. My opponent kept going 4 wide, I'd go into the quarter Man Cover 1, and use the in-game control to have Lawson blitz. Then, I string him out real wide, and spread the three down lineman wide, to eat the tackles.

Sack, every time.

OTOH, trying the same thing with Carpenter, probably only worked about 30% of the time.

So I would say, according to my extensive research, nectarines are preferable to oranges.

is the same putrid oakland team that's expected to go 0-16. gallery a failed first round pick. tagged and proven after three years.

let ware play against the raiders every week and we shall see.

plus stupid....lawson plays the same side as ware!!! so you expect to draft him to bck him up. no team in the draft had lawson playing the strouong side so don't just move players around since that will make you look even more stupid.

I go through these comparsions in my mind all the time, but we can't live in hindsight, no matter how much we want to.

originally posted by Ultra5 - "As for Merriman vs. Ware - i think their talent level is very, very similar. The difference is the scheme. Parcells/Zimmer are WAAAAAAAAAAY too conservative with these guys for my tastes... We really need to start turning some of this talent loose on people instead of "playing NOT to lose" or "playing conservative"... it's B.S. - we need to start SICKING the Dawgs of War on these offensive clowns. I really think our guys are afraid of "messing up" an assignment and having Tuna rip them on the sideline VS just being a football player and making plays..."

Totally agree with this statement. We have the talent to be one of the great defenses in league history if Parcells would only let 'em loose & play ball. Sure, we'll give up a big play here and there by doing so, but I would think that seeing our turnover ratio skyrocket in our favor would be well worth it. Until this happens, no comparison of Ware vs. Merriman will be accurate.

Time to fix bayonets and charge Bill.

Calling Gallery a "franchise tackle" is like calling Roseanne a "hot chick".

I just want you to know...talking about Roseanne with an "every day is hump day" signature pick is disturbing.....very disturbing.
