Was Dez Shutdown, or Just Ignored???

Dez grabbed three passes for two TDs (37 yards) in the first half of the game. Those totals remained the same at the end of the game.

He didn't register a catch in the entire second half of the game.

By comparison, Laurent Robinson was targeted 10 times by Romo (just 5 times for Dez).

I think a lot of that had to do with how the Lions were playing Robinson and Bryant respectively. However, I am of the mind you get the ball into your best receivers hands.

Was Dez shutdown by the Lions or ignored by us?

This is correct. Even if they are doubling him you still have to go to him. Every great WR in this game sees regular double teams.

Like Calvin Johnson, Dez is one of those WRs that you can throw a jump ball to and he will go up and get it in a crowd.

My answer to your question is that Dez was ignored.

Dez should be targeted at least once everytime we are inside the 10. There is no excuse not to give him a jump ball attempt, especially since all these CBs are midgets.

I wanted us to try the power running game, but we just dont have it. So go with the Deztroyer and Witten

For Dez it was his quad injury that limited him today. watch the snap and see that he doesn't have any burst for pass plays or run plays.

This totally falls on GARRETT.

How can the guy who scores for you in the first half be non existent in the second half...simple..

Detroits DF Cordinator outsmarted Garrett I've been telling you guys this since
Garrett became our OC and how HC he can't adjust games accordingly..

whether it's when we are losing or winning it doesn't matter...
when we are losing, it just keeps getting worse (never adjusts)
when we are losing, teams catch up ( never adjusts)

It's disgusting to watch this guy call a game simple as that....SIMPLY DISGUSTING!!

We have to pass unless we want to go 3 and out over and over again. Our OL is not good enough for us just to run it at the opposition.

The problem isn't that we threw too much but that Romo made too many mistakes.

3 and out and let your defense, that was playing great, keep playing great is preferable to throwing 47 times giving a much greater shot at mistakes in the passing game happening.

Especially after the first pick 6 you don't keep slinging the ball. You just don't.

There's already another very long thread on this point.

Sorry i missed it.

That coverage (or lack thereof) by Newman in the endzone against Johnson was pathetic. Play the freakin' ball, jam him at the line. Instead, what do we get? Newman dropping back into the endzone, Stafford makes the simple lob; touchdown.

Do you know how difficult it is to jam Calvin Johnson on the line? The guy is 6'4 220 lbs, or somewhere thereabout. Newman is 5'11 maybe 190lbs.

It's easier said than done.

Oh, it's no easy feat, but what's the alternative? Playing 4-5 yards off the line (in the endzone) and off of Johnson like we did?

I know I will be roasted for saying this -- I'm starting to wonder if Dez is having trouble getting himself open.

He clearly is going to win the majority of the jump balls, however, in the NFL getting open is as much about running precision routes as it is out-muscling the defender.

There might be some of that. Clearly he's not the technician that Miles is.

But I'm not convinced he's even remotely healthy. Seems like he gets that dead-leg syndrome as the game drags on. Rocket Ismail said this very thing on the post game, how those types of injuries get worse as the game goes on and you lose your burst.

Romo locked on the Robinson until that 2nd pick. He doesn't seem to read the field well at all more often then not he just seems to lock on to who ever is hot and live or die by that WR today it was Robinson

I don't think Dez is ever going to be a WR like Terry Glenn who routinely could get five yards of separation. I will also add that I don't think he is Keyshawn Johnson who couldn't get more than half a yard of separation from any CB.

Dez is very good at catching the ball without breaking stride and he can run through DB tackles. His ability to adjust to the ball in the air is also Moss-lie. If the ball is close to him he just vacuums it up and there doesn't seem to be much the DB can do about it.

Him and Miles complement each other very well. It would be nice if we could add a speed guy to occupy the other team's safety. Maybe Robinson can be that guy.

Ironically, Romo should have locked in to Robinson one more time. On that late drive where we settled for the field goal to make it 30-to-whatever, when Romo locked in on Ogletree and led him out of bounds -- Robinson was running wide open in the back of the end zone, waving his arms frantically. It looked like Carpenter was supposed to cover his zone, but bit on Witten (who was already covered), leaving Robinson open. Romo never looked his way.

They couldn't stop Dez. The 2 touchdowns were great coverage and he still outmuscled the defender for the ball. He is a freak ..... a man among boys. He is so physically strong that in an "even" situation, he comes up with the ball. Plus, he's got great speed. And ... we don't use him for more than 4 passes ..... 3 caught and the other caught but just out of bounds? ***. It is so frustrating to watch. It's like going to war when you have a jet fighter loaded with bombs and instead of using that, we pull out a swiss army knife.

AT the end of the day, if you can't generate pressure with 4, GREAT COORDINATORS will destroy you and that's what happened with Megatron.

As far as Dez, someone asked Garrett what Detroit did to Dez in the second half to take him away, he said they played the same stuff. Means to me that Romo just didn't go his way for some reason.

Dez is not playing 100% - - it's that simple.

And he never will, Dez will always be hurt, so far in his time in big D, that is what he is known for.

Romo missed him on one big play in the 4th quarter where he got behind the defense. They just didnt have the ball much in the 2nd half with all the turnovers.

This. Can't really target the guy when you don't have the ball.
