The NFL Rulebook states that any body part other than a hand or foot that touches the ground constitutes "down by contact." That means a helmet or head touching the ground would be considered down by contact.

Y'all can debate whether the ball was loose before his head touched the ground or not. I do agree with everyone that thinks that it should have been an official review by the NFL. Whether we had a remaining time-out or not should be inconsequential.

With all that said I wanted to put this here because with 99% of the "rigged" calls that go against us, a lot of the whining and consternation can be resolved with a simple understanding of the rules.

The "refs are always right" crowd will be all over this 3...2...1
What “crowd is that? Just because you reject the notion that there is an international conspiracy against the Cowboys doesn’t mean that you think that the referees are always right. In fact most of the posts that I’ve seen seen that the phone was not clear cut acknowledge that there is a quality issue with officiating in the league.

Ball CLEARLY moves before his helmet hits. Thanks for more proof.

I did not say anything about a conspiracy. So don't even start that crap.

I mentioned that crowd, because we have a group on here that always...ALWAYS....sides with the refs, even on the most worse obvious horrible calls or non calls.
I was referring to them. And it is the TRUTH.
So just stop.

I posted in a thread yesterday, I could see why the ref call him down and blew the whistle. He could not see the ball coming out.
But my response is based on that view, it was a clear fumble, but yet the OP is trying to defend the ref, as usual.

It clearly shows the ball moving before his head hits the turf.

Not only that but from the sideline camera you can see Edmunds' left arm be ripped away from the ball by Tank well before his helmet hits the ground.. So you see the ball pinned against Edmunds by Tank's right arm while Edmunds right arm is already off the ball and his left arm is extended either because he was trying to break his fall or because Tank had ripped it. Either way neither arm was on the ball as he went down.

A lot of guys who "have been watching football for 50 years" don't know the rules, and get mad at things that are actually the right calls. It's hilarious.
Actually what's funny is how two people who know the rules can come to completely different conclusions after watching the same video.

This is why gentlemen, video reviews by New York wouldn't cease any discussion about such close calls. In soccer we have the video ref in all major leagues and you still get the same bickering as before. You just can't get rational conclusions when emotions are involved.

That's why I call all these conspiracy theories about a rigged league by fans completely ridiculous.
