Was James Harrison really not penalized for either hit?

I just saw them...he led with his helmet BOTH times. I remember Darren Woodson did NOTHING illegal to Bobby Wade of the Seahawks...but because he hit him some hard and the guy did not get up...he drew a flag. So Harrison should have drawn a flag for that lone...but I guess if is is Pitt it does not happen like that!

Agree, he lowered his head and hit Cribbs with the crown of his helmet right on the side of Cribbs head.

You should not be able to use the crown of the helmet on any type of hits. I don't know if that was intentional, but the result was he rattled Cribb's brain.

The Jackson hit was legal, Robinson hit Jackson in the chest with his shoulder pad and the front of his helmet. Jackson got the concussion because of the recoil from the collision and consequently hitting the turf.

The hit on Jackson is part of the game, when you run those crossing routes, the qb has to take into consideration where he is leading that WR into as far as coverage.

Harrison's hit on the other hand is not part of the game. From pop warner to college. Dropping your head and leading with the crown is never acceptable!!

If Harrison keeps up with those types of hits, then I would hate to see him when he gets in late 40's and 50's, cause his brain is going to cause him problems.

If he played for the Cowboys he would have been put in prison for this.

you know, as much as I despise the Steelers....and especially this guy...when I see the Earl Campbells...and the other old timers look like creepy death crawlers....it makes me sad. As much as I despise the Eagles and their fans for cheering as Micheal Irvin lay on the carpet at Vets stadium....I felt nothing but sadness as I watched DeSean Jackson take that vicious hit. Maybe I have gone soft...or maybe that is the effect Wade has had on me...but I took no pleasure from seeing DeSean look like he was knocked into another planet. These guys laying the wood need to consider life after football. I don't care how amped you get...you can be agressive, you can be physical, you can try to seperate the ball carrier from the ball...but you don't have to do to the point where you are jeopardizing another players life or your own.

this is NOT EVEN FOOTBALL.....I mean what is this???????!!!! I love physical aggressive football....but this is just street fighting. And if he had done that to someone from Baltimore...that is exactly what the NFL will have...an all out brawl. And I for one would have no sympathy for the NFL....because this guy is like a bully roaming the streets in a lawless society!

Throwing blows like that normally results in ejection from the game (for those Non-Steelers who are caught). That isn't football, it is street fighting.

Well, for those complaining about him hitting with his helmet, you're taught to tackle with your eyes... You're going to hit them with your helmet. It's just how it is. If you don't see what you're going to hit, you're not going to tackle them. It's simple. People are getting to the point where if it's a big noise made, it's a dirty hit, which is just wrong for the most part.

knocking them down? Sure! Grabbing them by the throat? I mean get over yourself. It is a mean tough agressive sport. But play within the rules! What's next? A Steeler is going to pull a switchblade from their socks and stab someone in the gut? Is that too tough enough for you?

I always thought, from my minor football experience, that it was dangerous to lead with your head, face, eyes whatever. Sue you want to look at what you are hitting. I was listening to someone earlier on one of the shows that played back in the day, and he said as a former NFL player that they were taught to tackle with their shoulder and wrap up. These days everyone wants to be on ESPN and blow somebody up, and tackling all over the NFL is suffering. Tackle with your shoulder and not with your helmet. Obvioulsy, some times it is not something that can be avoided as the other player is also moving, in most cases.

If you can see what you're going to hit, you're less likely to do any damage to yourself.

Until the league does something he'll continue to hit like this without worry. And talk about it.
