Let's see if he benches someone in a real game. Doubt it.
He made Free split snaps last year so it's not like that move is out of thre question. Sometimes benching Welker becuase he made too many foot jolkes is dumb, sometimes you don't have the dept to make a benching worth it.

Correct me if I a wrong, but didn't Free start every game last year? They didn't have the balls to simply replace him, they just lessened his play somewhat. Free was one of the worst players at his position in the league and he started every game.

JJ quote on the Murray Fumble
http://sports.yahoo.com/news/romo-2-td-passes-cowboys-031147968--nfl.html

But there was a fumble by Murray on the second series that the Cowboys recovered at their own 9. Though Murray finished that drive, coach Jason Garrett didn't put the third-year running back on the field again until after halftime - when Romo and most starters were done.
''We had a little in-house resolve about what we would do if we should turn the ball over,'' Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said. ''I think (Murray) came back with resolve and I think he still had an attitude after he finished that third quarter. I think Jason was making a point. But the good news is if you are going to make it, make it with somebody who can take it.''

My goodness, this would make me VERY happy if people are held accountable for things like this; I know that you can't always just pull your best players (by position) out if they make a mistake, but in pre-season you can...hopefully this sent a message

overreaction to a bad evening during a pre-season game. he is much better than either of those two backs. his heart wasn't in it tonight until JG sat him. point was made, and he responded the way a good player does. if he showed any entitlement that was erased this evening in front of the team.

True. The other backs would not have scored that touchdown. Murray is clearly the best back on the team.

He was benched after not running a crossing route beyond the chains. That came after the fumble. His catch did not get the first and made it fourth down, forcing a punt.
yeah I'm looking at the replay right now, he played a few plays after the fumble which makes me believe that he did not get benched because of the fumble. He actually may not have gotten benched at all they may have been showcasing the other running backs.

Garrett and Jones both said he was benched for the fumble.

Because the coaches only decided this week to bench players who turned the ball over.

A player usually gets benched for fumbling right after he fumbles. Not saying that he didnt get benched but it's just unusual

Also, one of those articles said most of the starters were out, but the entire starting OL was still in.

People can say what they want about JJ and Garrett but its obvious there has been a change in the culture at the ranch even from JJ. I like that he came out and said that. Putting them on notice is something he hasn't done with players. Although if it was Romo Ware Witten or Bryant they probably wouldn't have been punished. As Jimmy use to say there are different rules for star players.

Ooh! I got this one: because this was a different game, and they were trying to make a point about turnovers after the 6 turnover game against the Cardinals you were just referring to.

Let's see if he benches someone in a real game. Doubt it.

You'd want him to? Or would you want him to do exactly what he did: bench the guy to make a point in the game where the results didn't matter, and play the best players where you can in the games that do and work on the turnover problems during the week like everybody else? Otherwise, what are you criticizing if you wouldn't expect a coach to do anything different, yourself?

Or are you saying everyone who gets a turnover in the regular season *should* be benched? That would be an interesting argument to try to win.

Didn't Dez's fumble occur on the last drive for the starting offense?
Maybe so. The starters didn't play very long last game, so it could have been.

I did note Jerry's comment after the game to the effect that if you're going to do that, it's nice to do it to someone who can handle it. Something like that.

Ok, so true story.. I was at the game with some friends last night and I thought it was odd they pulled Murray out so early, I even wondered if maybe he got hurt. I never thought for a SECOND that it was because of him fumbling. That just shows how bad our coaching has been over the years. Looks like Garrett is learning and taking a page from Coughlins book. I'm EXTREMELY happy about this and hope to see it more. Make those players think about their mistakes and how it impacts the team. Let them know their jobs are not secure.. and let the backs ups know they don't always have to be backups. Keeps EVERYONE hungry this way.

I'm one of the few that never really cared for Murray. He seems like a combination of Julius Jones with poor vision but decent speed sprinkled with some Marion Barber power without the passion.

One of the worst evaluations of Murray I've ever read. Don't let ghosts of players past scare you into baseball dislike for another player. That's the same crap people pull when they rag on Church, because they are scared Roy Williams is waiting under their bed at night.

If you haven't heard, the talk throughout camp has been about how Murray and Lee have been in dogged competition throughout the offseason. They seek out reps against each other, clash and then walk off without apologies or pats on the butt.

Yet, when it comes time to study film, they are in there together giving each other tips on what to look for. The guy is a competitor and the idea that he has bad vision and no passion is a complete fabrication.

Personally, I would've benched Romo for the bad overthrow of T-will. Then, I would've benched him again for blaming it on T-will. :p

If it's a star why would he?

Yeah let's bench Dez, just to be a hard ***, don't worry we will lose the game. At least he will show us he is tough.

The guy is wearing tinted glasses when he watches Murray. Just like most of us do, including you when we watch games and players.
The tint's just a different color for each of us.
