Was Our Secondary That Bad?

Somebody may have to correct me here, as I started drinking heavily as this game unwound, but I remember Rodgers just being stupid accurate the whole game. We all know he is a damn good QB but he just seemed so on-point last night. How do you defend against that?

I know I know, a pass rush. Still, the guy was impressive. I just seem to remember some tight coverages but he just puts it right on the mark.

The defense tackled poorly as a whole. The plan to substitute players was a disaster. Rodgers also came out on fire and we had to change the gameplan to defend that. Better tackling helps solves a lot of the issues, but the entire defense was disorganized in the first half which is a real shame given we had a bye week while the Packers had to play the Giants.

Yes. They are. We had a week's rest. He was down to his 2nd, 3rd and 4th receivers and completely abandoned the run game. Took them down the field in 30 seconds to win it and converted a 3rd and 20. They are THAT bad AND then some. We'll never get anywhere without our defense having 1-2 playmakers this offseason. Ready to trade/sell the farm for an impact player Ricky Williams style.

The pass defense was always going to get exposed as the playoffs unfolded.

Rodgers - Ryan - Brady. It wasn't if - but when.

They did a pretty good job with smoke and mirrors during the season but you can't finish a gunfight with a popgun.

Green Bay played the second half against the Giants without Jordy and Rodgers lit them up. NY's defense was better than ours.

Some of the catches yesterday were with defenders right on them. A more consistent pass rush would help, and the secondary is far from perfect, but it's not as bad as some think. The defensive line is more of a liability.

It wasnt always bad coverage there were some amazing throws with some timely luck mixed in. The holds by the oline just helped give more time for it to happen.

The defense finally lived down to it's preseason expectations. And I do not mean that as it sounds. They out played their talent level well at times in the regular season by playing hard, and good schemes, but in the playoffs against better offenses, and especially against Rodgers, they could not close the deal.

They need help at every positional group. We need a big time pass rusher, LB and a true shut down CB. Ball hawking S.
I think it may take a few years to get the type of D we all want. The offense is there, but need a speed WR on the other side. Dez is great, but he needs that WR on the opposite side.
Butler and TWill are not that guy. They could be some good depth but not a #2 WR.

Simple answer. Yes. As already stated, we were 100% healthy and GB was using a reciever as a running back and a couple of their receivers were back ups. Claiborne was supposed to be a diffrence maker, he was not good and that is being polite.

The Dallas DBs are complementary players; not one of them is a playmaker. It's hard to shut down an elite QB if you do not have a dominant pass rush and you are an average non-playmaking DB.

Yes Byron jones was abused he looked worse than Alan ball. He wasn't here in 2014 and it showed. He was casually jogging around all game with a huge smile. Shameful for the veterans that emptied the tank yesterday.

I'm in this same boat. I haven't seen that many toe-drag receptions in a single game in my life. And in that first half, he didn't have a ton of guys streaking wide open. His ball placement was terrific and had to have converted like 9 third downs in the half.

Our defense needs a lot of work up front. We really don't have any distributors on that side of the ball, save for Lee. But sometimes the other guy is really, really good too.

Hell, we played him better than Seattle or New York did when you get right down to it.

Byron Jones had a disastrous game.

Something I have been thinking about. I really like Jones and I think he was solid for much of the the year, but it seems like he struggled as the year wore on. What if we moved him back to CB? He has the physical traits to be a Sherman type CB and generally Safeties are generally a relatively cheap buy in FA. The fact that Heath has led our team in interceptions that last two years tells me a ball hawk safety would be really help out and it would give us Jones, Scandrick, and Brown at CB heading into the draft.
