Was the Eagles win good or bad in the long term?

As a life long Cowboys fan, there's no team I despise more than the Eagles. I can't stand their players almost as much as their fans (read as: they're both despicable). Needless to say, beating them at their house and hearing their fans cry boos was just about as good as it gets during the regular season.

Immediately after the game ended, I sat there thinking to myself: was this win actually good (or bad) for the Cowboys? Let's face it, we still have a lot of challenges to face even to get into the playoffs, let alone make a run to the SB. Either the Rams or the Saints are going to be the 2018 NFC SB representative unless something shocking happens. Our 2018 ceiling has a pretty hard cap this season (and next assuming the Rams continue to dominate).

But, Garrett's job security definitely did not get worse (Linehan too) and probably improved. IMO, that is NOT a good thing. This guy is like a cockroach - can survive through the toughest conditions by going 8-8 year after year. How can JJ's inkling to fire Garrett get any stronger after kicking some Eagle butt on the road? Seems unlikely.

What has to happen from here on out to ensure that Garrett AND Linehan are gone before the 2019 season?

I don't know if this one game will ultimately make much difference for the future, but I definitely feared winning some of the games in 2016 was going to be extremely bad long (and not too far off short) term. Sadly, that fear has come mostly to fruition. I just hope Jerry doesn't make it a complete reality.

Better for entertainment value, but I'd prefer Garrett and Linehan gone and let Dak have a chance to be developed by Riley. I don't really want a coasting coaching staff dumping more talent down the drain.

Any managerial staff would fire garrett unless he gets to a nfc championship game

Marty schottenheimer got fired for going 14-2 and losing the divisional game

Nfc championship game or find a new team to coach

Any victory is a good victory. Beating the Eagles while we're down AFTER they won the Super Bowl last year is especially satisfying.

I understand the mind-set of wanting the team to lose in order for changes to be made, but we really don't know if those changes will be made anyway. We're just along for the ride so might as well enjoy what you can get rather than worry about what may never come.

Except one headed up by JJ.....

Good.

Slice it any way you want but it is never a bad thing to beat ANY of the NFC east teams

JG would likely still be here next year and Linehan will likely be gone anyways.

Depends on what happens the rest of the year.

If we use this to catapult the team to a winning streak and can have a chance at the playoffs coming down the stretch, then it was a good win. However, if this was just a one-off and we go on to lose 4 of the next 6 or something like that and limp down the stretch already out of the playoffs, then it was obviously not a good win.

I think what you are really asking is "does this win save Garrett if we flounder the rest of the year and miss the playoffs".

Good chance it does. It gives Jerry the cover he needs to keep Garrett by beat the SB champs on the road. Probably not what you wanted to hear, but it is the most likely scenario.

I expect this team to go out and fight and win games so no there is nothing bad about doing what you are suppose to be doing. whatever happens at the end of the season will happen but I would think much less of this team for laying down and giving up. Fans can give up all they want I don't care, I refuse to get into peoples personal grudges but for this team you play to win that is their job

Of course it was good. The goal remains the same regardless who coaches the team.

to the OP, I can answer that after the next two games....will they revert to the non-game-planning of games 1-8 or will they learn from game 9 and not be so predictable?

If we get to the playoffs. It means we have been on a winning streak.
And to do that it means we been playing good football.

And that means going into the playoffs on a hot streak. So no matter who we play, we will be playing as well as they are.

Bring them on.

Win out or lose out, Garrett was never going anywhere until after the 2019 season. And can’t be concerned about that right now.

Do I think we make it that far. No, as they need to show us they can go on a winning streak.
Nothing I seen tells me they can. Prove it on the field.

I don't think we can know the answer yet. It's always nice to experience a win, but let's see how the rest of the season plays out before saying whether it was a good thing or a bad thing.
