FWIW...I purchased a next to top-of-the-line, front load washer and drier set about 8-9 years ago. The drier I've never had a lick of trouble w/. The washer has been serviceable, but had to replace the gasket and a door hinge, (both parts and labor covered under warranty thankfully) within the first few months.

At the time the service guy came to replace the defective parts, he gave me the heads-up about the gasket/mildew issue and how to prevent it. His easy preventative to both clean the machine itself and the gasket was the product "Simple Green" which I did regularly. There were 2-3 times over the years where the washer didn't get cleaned for a month or more, and there was a distinct musty smell left in the clothes, but after 2-3 cycles w/ the Simple Green, it disappeared.

Recently, the washer's spin cycle started acting up and clothes were coming out wet. The P&L quote from the serviceman was nearly 1/3 what a new machine would cost, so I told him that I was just going to go that route, and if he had any advice on getting another top loader or not.

I told him I'd been pretty diligent on "cleaning" etc. His response was "yea well" and to ask me if he could remove the door seal and "show me something?" I was really surprised, and actually kinda pissed, when I saw how much "gunk" had still accumulated under and around it. He gave me a crash-course on why this happens, and the pros/cons on top vs front loaders.

I went that afternoon and bought a top-of-the-line, top loader and won't be going back!

well, i like to "stack" mine, so it has to be a front loader. samsung. never had a lick of problems out of either for the last 6+ years i've had 'em.

Vinegar also works well. I always have a gallon of vinegar on hand at any time.

I've owned Front Loaders for about 12 years now. I will never go back to a top loader machine. Heck, my Wife would divorce me, take half (if I'm lucky) of everything I have and use that money to buy a brand new, top of the line Front Loader.

Besides, I no longer have to wash the little dog. Now, I just pop him in the front loader for about 10 and then immediately transfer him to the dryer and he's spic and span in no time. The Cat is a little tougher but as they say, "It all comes out in the Wash."

;-)

Doubles as a treadmill. No need to take him for a walk.

Went with a GE top loader washer and gas dryer... Cost-wise it made better sense for me..

I go with whatever the wife likes since it is her job! https://encrypted-tbn2.***NOT-ALLOWED***/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcS9JOKAlYtHzFM4j0jeHOXueMkT7nWTIAgjHTKtMtQuDUGQyjeL

You know, this weekend is the no tax + rebates when you buy specific Energy Star rated appliances in the state? Just an FYI.

Really? :(

Unfortunately, I'm going to be out of town, so I wouldn't be able to take advantage of it.

It'd be worth going to the store you bought them from and see if there's anything thing can do for you. At the very least they should offer you a percentage off what you've already paid.

Ask for the manager. Kill'em w/ kindness, and if that gets you nowhere, you should have a grace period to return your purchase. DON'T be afraid to threaten 'em w/ that!
