Robert Griffin III turned a solid outing Sunday into another starting opportunity.

Washington Commanders coach Jay Gruden announced Monday the plan is to start RGIII Saturday in a divisional matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, to be shown exclusively on NFL Network.

"He competed in the first half ... hopefully he can build on that," Gruden said.

Griffin finished 18-of-27 passing (66.7 percent) for 236 yards and a touchdown pass with no picks after taking over for Colt McCoy (neck) in Sunday's loss to the New York Giants. The quarterback ran for 46 yards on five carries but was also sacked seven times.

Gruden added that he doesn't expect McCoy to dress Saturday.

Griffin displayed more comfort running the offense than any time this season and flashed a bit of his formerly famed mobility -- including a would-be touchdown run that was overturned before halftime.

Gruden added that he will try to build the offense around Griffin's strengths.

"He's got every chance this week against the Philadelphia Eagles to take this position and run with it," the coach said.

The Eagles are coming off a Sunday night game and two physical games in a row where their defense played well above their average number of minutes. They have a short week playing a road game on a Saturday so they could be vulnerable.

That's fine. To me it comes down to the Skins defense. If they can get off the field and keep Philly from scoring then the Skins have a chance. If Philly scores at will obviously Washington won't be able to keep up with him.

If Gruden doesn't try to make RGIII a pocket passer in the game plan, and we can get a run game going via read option, we have a chance.

Its the offensive playcalling as far as I'm concerned.

Last meeting between these 2 in Philly resulted in a 37 to 34 win for Philly with Garcon and Jackson having big days vs Philly secondary. If Washington can get a better game out of Morris I think they have a chance to upset the eagles.

In other words, the Eagles are getting a Week 16 bye.

Good gosh, RG3 is just awful. Far worse than I ever thought he would be.

But he'll always be better than Johnny Manziel. He's got that going for him.

This is awful? Griffin finished 18-of-27 passing (66.7 percent) for 236 yards and a touchdown pass with no picks after taking over for Colt McCoy (neck) in Sunday's loss to the New York Giants. The quarterback ran for 46 yards on five carries but was also sacked seven times.

No doubt in my mind that RGIII is going to do all he can to prove himself, right now the love fest is over with and he has a lot in front of him to prove. Hope he can have a big one vs Philly

Did you watch the 1st Eagles /skins game ?

I did and we almost beat them with Foles as their QB who isn't nearly the turnover liability as Sanchez. We came out on the short end of a track meet - though Cousins had his best game of the year that day. 427 yards with 3 TDs and 1 INT.

I just think there's a ton of incentive for the skins. RG3 is playing for his job , desean Jackson wants revenge , and they want to play spoiler . I think it'll be a good game.

"PHILADELPHIA — After losing two starters to injury and a third in a fourth-quarter brawl, the Washington Commanders still had a chance to outscore the NFL’s top-ranked offense Sunday on the home turf of a reviled NFC East foe."

Yeah, no love lost that's for sure.

Man, Commanders fans are so adorable. Give 'em your best, guys! You can do this. You can compete in the NFCE, at least for one game. We believe in you!

Not really.

4 playoff appearances and 2 playoff wins....over the past 23 seasons since our last title will do that to a fan.

I'll be a big RG3 fan this Saturday! How awesome would it be to have the Skins win and we can clinch the division a week early

It would be a dream come true to head into week 17 knowing we are in the playoffs. After 3 years of coming down to the last weekend this would be a great Christmas Present. :)
