I also heard Dallas was interested in Chuck Knoll, Don Shula, George Halas, Tom Landry, Curly Lambeau, Paul Brown, Bud Grant, Marty Schottenheimer, Chuck Knox, Bill Parcells, Mike Holmgren, Mike Ditka, Jim Mora, George Seifert, George Allen, Dick Vermeil, Joe Gibbs, Don Coryell, John Madden, Bill Walsh, and Vince Lombardi for either linebackers coach or defensive assistant.

I believe they have narrowed it down to Tom Landry, Curly Lambeau, George Halas, Bill Walsh, Paul Brown, and Vince Lombardi, but word is there is some unknown reason holding up the negotiations between them and the Cowboys.

My sources in the Catholic Church tell me that one of the two priests brought in to facilitate communication via exorcism recently passed away after interviewing Jones . . .

Doubt any truth to that story. Williams is a 43 DC.

He tried some 3-4 in Washington. Mostly it was when there were injuries or on passing downs.

Jerry isn't putting together a defensive staff...Wade Phillips is doing it with Jerry making the contract offers.

Wade already has said that he thinks ex-head coaches make excellent assistants...he may be speaking only from his own personal experiences, but he clearly said that these are coaches who know the pressures of being a head coach, guys who see the big picture, and that generally guys who have been head coaches or coordinators work as hard as they can to actually help the head guy..."they want to be the best assistants they can be"...they know how important it is because they've been there.

Guys who used to be head coaches or coordinators don't come into a new job trying to make waves or cause problems...they've been the guy who got fired or forced to resign which is why they are looking for a job...they see not only the big picture of how the defense works within a scheme, but they also see the big picture in regards to the way they can help or hinder a head coach...that's why Wade likes them and thinks they make better assistants.
