Washington Times: Cowboys take physical play much too far

What a strange article.

While he is probably reaching with the whole "They do it on purpose" angle. They certainly aren't doing anything to correct it. Through two games the Cowboys have been called for 21 penalties, for 190 yards. Tops in the league, with Green Bay nipping at their heels with 18/180.

I think it speaks more to a lack of discipline more then anything more malicious.

I take it that this writer was promoted from the classified section to the sports department. He clearly lacks any understanding of the game :laugh2:

This article is just silly, no one is out trying to intentionally grab facemask. As runners are cutting and turning the defender is trying to grab any part he can to prevent the back from breaking loose. The facemask fouls were also costly to the Cowboys.

Yep, the "premeditated" angle is a stretch. If anything, they were reacting (poorly) to Westbrook's dexterity, athleticism.

True. But we had the same problem with Parcells here. Sooner or later the players have to play smarter.

You are right and if it continues it could cost the Cowboys. Do you really think they are looking to pick up that many penalties for that kind of yardage?

He also has a point about Westbrook getting facemasked rather then McNabb. Had it been a QB, Roger Goddell would be having a little sit down...

I had to keep looking at the top of the article to see if this was real or a joke. Dallas was called for two flags and the last one was just a missed call, which happens in every game. And the NFL reviews every game anyway. So if a fine needs to be issued, then the NFL will issue it.

I enjoy good fiction now and then, but come on.....conspiracy theory much?

Out of 67 total plays, at least 24 to Westbrook, where were the other dirty plays designed to take out Westbrook? Where are the other unnecessary roughness penalties, etc? Pfffffffffffft...what a buffoon.

Still, watching the Cowboys' leg-breakers in action was like going back in time - to the 1950s, before the NFL got serious about cleaning up its act.

But it does the NFL no good that the largest cable television audience ever (18.6 million, according to reports) witnessed this kneecapping of Westbrook.
Leg-breakers and kneecapping?

Where is this coming from?

There was a screen play either in the second or third quarter when Chris gocong blitzed on him romo right in the facemask. The ref was right there and missed the call. I guess that deadskin homer missed that.

Exactly. The author obviously didn't pay attn to the penalties. Otherwise he'd understand that they just played some really undisciplined ball. That's not dirty, not stupid.

Did it ever occur to this guy that maybe westbrook is just so good that at times they could only come up with air or part of the face mask?

Somehow I don't think they were out to get him by using the face mask considering they have already felt the heat from the press, and hopefully the coaches, for stupid penalties.

Besides the only bounty I remember hearing in a long time was the one initiated by Buddy Ryan when he was a coach with....The eagles. Dirty waters ring a bell.

Uh, I actually agree with him except for one thing. If the number of face mask penalties is his only example of "too physical" then this article is a wee bit on the lace panties whining side.

They do need to knock it off before they hurt someone and before it costs us a game. But call it what it is, stupid, not "too physical."

:lmao: :laugh2: :laugh1: ...This article is a joke, right? Man, what will these idiots come up with next to try to tear the 'Boys down? I guess he didn't see BW's facemask disguised as a stiffarm or Samuel's over-zealous push after TO got a PI call against him or Cole's smacking/knockdown of Curtis on the false start or the punch to the face that Romo took that wasn't called! Maybe Daly's trying to get a gig at the National Enquirer being as he's writing sensationalistic pieces now!

Jay Ratliff needs to send audition tapes to Hollywood.

He looked devastated after getting called for a facemask on Westbrook in the 4th.

Explain to me how you know for a fact that they "aren't doing anything to correct it." Because two games in a row means it is encouraged by the coaches?

I doubt that very seriously.

Ah, so we're a dirty team now. Interesting.

From the NBA, my Spurs were called dirty in 2007 as well. Championship!

The better your team is, the more hate you receive. Especially from divisional rivals.

B/c it's not just a two-game aberration. The Cowboys have had problems with penalties for years. One poster said they have had this problem as far back as Parcells.

I should have said nothing is being SUCCESSFULLY done about it. My bad.

Face Mask penalties are rarely missed from what I have seen, so the coaching staff is hardly likely to say "Get out there and face mask the SOB if you have to... so what if it costs us 15 every time"

what a ******.
