Yep I suspected at the time he knew the end was near and got one more cash grab. For such an outstanding player in his prime he really pulled some crap last year to get paid and then fall off. Wanting to get paid is fine but then to sit out like he did.....

They've determined he's a better guard than tackle. I'm not an offensive line guru but as a novice it seems smart to have him at tackle, Guyton at right tackle and do what the hell ever you want with Steele.

Smith is a guard for the same reasons Martin is a guard. You can be a guard and still be the highest paid O line player in the NFL with the Cowboys. It is much easier position to play and players make their own choices here. Why would he ever play LT? LG is so much easier.
