Can't make this stuff up. The OL problems this year were predictable. We replaced Smith and Biadasz with Guyton and Beebe. Martin got older and Steele hasn't been right since the injury. So many wanted to believe HOFer Smith was washed up last year, and bringing in fresh talent would be a natural upgrade....or atleast a wash. Even more thought bringing in super stud Beebe was a clear upgrade over scrub pro bowler Biadasz.

Guys, it's clear this isn't the case. Those were big losses. You can't expect to replace two strong starters along the line with rookies and expect similar or better results. I said it in the offseason and I'm saying it again. The front office screwed this up royally, and now the offense is broken. Hopefully they can improve as the season progresses, and we see a better product on the field next season. We'll see.

I mean everything about that play was a mess. From 4 offensive linemen failing miserably to Dowdle bobbling a ball that hit him right in the hands and then being seemingly the most surprised that he caught it.

We most certainly are. They want to be celebrities and media personalities not champions and leaders of men.
LOL.

Imagine thinking Zach Martin who has been the leader of this OL for years just wants to be a celebrity and media guy and doesn't want to be a champion.

The dude's body has failed him. His back is clearly an issue. Age got him, not media attention and desire to be an off the field star.

That’s the worst part for me. He held this team hostage last year and now clearly doesn’t care. He knew he was done, but held them up for one last payday anyway.

The other guys have excuses, Martin doesn’t.
This is getting a bit ridiculous.

Martin played fine last year under his new deal. He had one of his highest graded seasons in 2021 and then graded Top 12 for OGs in 2022. So it wasn't like he fell off a cliff and then demanded a big pay day. He was still playing well at that point. His back is clearly an issue this offseason.

Only in Cowboys land would be end up vilifying one of the best players this franchise has ever had. Hahahaha.

And again, let's put the blame where it actually goes - Jerry, for paying these guys. Sometimes, tough decisions have to be made and Jerry never seems to make the right call when it comes to his guys.

The drop off of Martin from last year is astounding.
Too many people weren't noticing the drop off over several years. Now it seems like he fell of a high cliff when in reality it was only a small hill. Last year was his worst year yet most still thought he was the best RG or one of the best RG's in the league.

They've determined he's a better guard than tackle. I'm not an offensive line guru but as a novice it seems smart to have him at tackle, Guyton at right tackle and do what the hell ever you want with Steele.
This would be the way to go. I was hoping that Steele would be back to the form that earned him the extension in the first place before the injury. He's not. Guyton hasn't been great at LT, which is fine. He's a raw rookie that we knew would need time to develop. He's shown flashes of what he can do. But I think moving him to RT and moving Smith out to LT, then going with Bass and likely a FA at the other guard position after this season may be our best bet.

My criticism of Martin in no way absolves the owner from blame.

Last year (after he signed the extension) was definitely below his norms, but still rated as one of the better OGs in football. In 2021, he had one of his highest PFF grades of all time and 2022, was a small drop but still quite high.

Let's not pretend he had fallen off a cliff when he demanded his extension before the 2023 season. He was coming off two pretty good years.
PFF is so erratic in their grades it's mind boggling. Bottom line, the grade they gave him was well above his real performance.

He started getting beaten more regularly in the 21 season and it has gotten progressively worse. For a couple years prior to that he wasn't losing but he wasn't winning at a high rate either. Most of his blocks were stalemates.

If we truly had the players PFF & pro bowl nods suggest, why haven't we had a consistent run game in years?

For those reasons, he should have played out his contract or traded not given a raise.
