Slowed speed down especially on defense to see what Dallas is doing and what really happend on final series that resulted in NY field goal.

Defense - When you rewatch this game three things become apparent. One- Dallas did blitz enough. Especially on last series Dallas blitzed three times and on the crutial 3rd and 4 that set up field goal - Dallas brought 6 players at Manning. Two - Dallas just isnt that good at blitzing (outside of Bradie James). Three - Eli Manning did really good job getting rid of ball just before defender got there.

Bobby Carpender - he just stands out on film as player who did virtually nothing except waiving his arms at the crowd. Horrible blitzer getting neutralized easly but single blocks and on running plays he gets back on his heels when offensive lineman comes his way. Without doubt easy guy to block on this defense.

Demarcus Ware - this guy goes all out on every play...he just came up against a LT that did excellent job. Often he was just a second away from getting sack if DB can hold coverage just bit longer. Give credit to Giants LT in this game.

Olshansky - huge guy but poor at getting to QB ...he rarely was able to beat his guy but his assignment might to be to just hold his gap. I think Canty was slightly the better player.

Spears - another one of these guys who is just a non factor on too many plays. Rarely beats his guy even with single blocker...rather seems more intent on rushing intially - gets stood up and just waits for throw and try to knock it down.

Ratliff - huge motor on every play. Makes some great plays but noticed sometimes he completely takes him self out of a play with aggressive style. Can live with his style.

Bradie James - truely one of the three stars on this defense (Ware, Ratliff, James). He is active and aggressive. Seems to have knack for blitzing and holds up well in running game. Always on his toes pursuing play.

Brooking - dont see upgrade here from last year. Often over-whelmed by offensive lineman and cant blitz either. Would put him in with group of basically bodies on the field who don't do anything particularly well (Spears, Carp, Brooking, Bowen, Hamlin).

Scandrick - if this guy makes half of the missed tackles dallas wins. Very disappointing on film. Jenkins looked like the better player to my suprise.

Hamlin - average at best. On his single blitz he did same thing as last year and takes bad angles. Pursuit was excellent but just takes and angle where he misses the QB.

On 3 and 4 that set up winning FG. Dallas rushes 6 players as Jenkins comes up to play press coverage. Only thing wrong is that Jenkins doesnt get the jam - huge mental error and allows receiver to run slant. Manning gets rid of ball for easy completion. Dallas brought pressure - Jenkins just makes bad decision to allow receiver to run the hot read in that situation - a slant.

Offense - Line did good job and two guys really stand out here:

Lenord Davis - had huge blocks in this game. Almost played perfect game...didnt give up a sack and made several huge blocks for big runs and TD.

Deon Anderson - was a beast in this game. I cant even imagine this game without this guy. Perfect on blitz pickups and just made big block after big block in running game. If Dallas won this game....he was MVP.

Tony Romo - all of his bad passes were too high. That was common thing with Farve early in his career....but with Romo it continued thru-out the game. Manning was accurate and Romo wasnt...that pretty much decided this game.

Thank you for that Wood.

I appreciate getting someone's take without an agenda tied to it.

Very good report.

Might be the best post yet concerning this game.

I had a friend of mine tell me that the receivers had a really bad game ... that they weren't getting open, sloppy routes, etc.

I think sometimes we forget about that when grading the quarterback.

It is a valid point. As much as they rely on a good QB he relies on them too.

It's much easier to say "Romo sucks".

kudos to you for this analysis:bow:

2 things:

i think that Olshansky is mainly meant to eat up space as you said so i think he's doing what he needs to do, and i think he did really well against the run. (at least i hope he's not being told to rush)

and i was curious how in depth you watched the d-line on passing plays when we just rushed 4-5. i had a theory that part of the reason Ware hasn't gotten the sacks yet is partially b/c there is not a good push in the middle so the QB can just step up to avoid Ware blazing around the edge. did that look to be the case or was i off on that statement?

I keep wondering about this. Every game I watch, I see receivers get the ball with space around them. Either by scheme or good routes, receivers seem to often end up in open spots on the field.

However our receivers seem to often be fighting coverage, relying on perfect throws from Romo or making tough grabs in coverage. We saw the Giants do it to us, how many times did receivers catch the ball in the open field?

Obviously there are times when our guys are open, but what is so different about our passing game that we rarely seem to get those easy catches? Witten does most of the dirty work and gets open a lot, but the receivers?

Scandrick did miss a number of tackles but he also made a good number of them. It would be interesting to go back and look at all of them and see why he was missing them. On the ones he made, he looked pretty fundamentally sound to me and I don't think you can say he is afraid to stick his nose in there. I remember the one he missed behind the line of scrimmage he was not in good position to make, but I can't remember why he missed the others.

At some point I think it is allowable to say New York just did an excellent job at picking up the blitz. I would imagine that was a huge point of emphasis for them all week given the last game's 8 sacks given up.

Wood, did you notice Hatcher being held on that last drive? I thought I saw to clear holds on Hatcher but nothing was called. Was not sure if it was my wishful thinking or if he actually was being held from the interior of the Gline.

They did a great job picking up the blitz, it was amazing to watch us bring a bunch of guys and everyone always seemed to be accounted for.

On passing plays Dallas goes with nickle package that removes DL and adds DB. In Dallas normal base 3-4 they rush 5 guys. When Dallas goes to nickle defense they rush 4 guys. And your right...they dont get good interior push on those plays. Bowen was guy I noticed who wasnt effective on any level getting interior rush on passing downs.

...manningham and smith did'nt seem to have too much trouble...matter of fact they looked all-world...

...we as fans need to decide just what the Cowboys are...because opinion keeps evolving like a chameleon...

...Romo is running out of excuses plain and simple...continuing to blame receivers for his bad decision-making is plain silly...there's going to be no place to hide for either him or Phillips if this all goes south again in the end...this guy makes too many mistakes...it does'nt matter how much talent he possesses...

...the consensus opinion here is that Dallas is a better team than the Giants and if they come to Dallas with the injuries they had sunday night and still come away with a win what then?...paper does'nt win games...execution, consistency and good decision making does...

Not sure why you left off some important players like Newman, Spencer, Felix. And don’t agree that Brooking isnt an upgrade.

Wood, what's the analysis on Spencer? I felt like he had a good game but I didn't record it. My opinion is that this guy is finally coming along and seemed to be making some plays out there.

From the limited amount I have watched Manningham in college and with NY, he just seems hard to tackle, despite not being very big.
