Watching the Packers offense

they just have a better offensive system...they have similar problems to us like they suck at closing out close games but they are able to get their stuff done early.

Has NOTHING to do with the their running game. Rodgers has been amazing his whole career with the Packers and they have never had a great running game. This year they happen to have a decent running game.. but Rodgers has done it without one for his whole career. Teams with elite QB's tend to play a lot better on offense.

Romo has also had an amazing career as well. He never really had a running game and has had a terrible defense throughout. At least Rogers has a defense that can actually stop someone. Thats really the only difference between Romo and Rogers.

The Packers are TERRIBLE at closing out games.

The thing with them is they <usually> whip their opponents in the 1st half and make it a non-issue.

I thought Romo was supposed to just cut down on the turnovers and manage the game and stop blowing games in the 4th and we were Super Bowl bound?

Yet he rarely turns it over this year, throws the ball away, takes sacks and still throws more TD passes than most NFL QBs - and we are still .500.

Three things are the same this year - Garrett is still stupid, the defense still stinks, and we cannot run the ball

He didn't do that before JG. Go back and look at how we ran the offense under Parcells/Sprano.

Our offense back then was unpredictable. We used alot of rollouts and play action. With this offense, Romo is nothing more than a pocket passer.

And thinking to myself how is it that things look so calm
And so smooth for them? I mean AR is just smooth and calm and never seems rushed and is ways put together. Where if you watch our Offense and Romo things look chaotic and crazy out there and when he's rushed things seem to just come apart.
Am I the only one who notices this?

It's the system. Go look the thread hairc posted about our offense using the all-22 film. The routes we have our receivers run are laughable.

You'll realize why all the big plays we gotten in past years came from broken plays where Romo scrambled and made something out of nothing. It surely wasn't by design.

Sometimes I wonder if there's a reluctance on Garrett's part to tailor his system to the players because of an ego issue - almost like he thinks he's smart enough that his system is going to work and the players need to fit into it instead of the other way around.

I'm sure that's an oversimplification, but still.

I think Rogers is an elite guy. Tony not so much & that is not a bash. He's just not as good.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing earlier tonight. Have also noticed the same contrast with the current Cowboys team when watching our early 90's teams on youtube.

Their offense is a lot more "buttoned up" than ours.

Combination of talent and coaching.

I thought we were talking about the packers not one player ?( and romo has been better than Rodgers this year ) Is this the trend again ? So Eli is 2-0 vs Brady so he is better right ? Cowboys fans are the dumbest .

I think Rogers is an elite guy. Tony not so much & that is not a bash. He's just not as good.

Aside from Rogers winning a superbowl both QB put up very similar numbers. So what does Romo have to do to be considered elite? Win the superbowl?

Yes, Rodgers is better than Garrett, but they have a system where Rodgers can be Rodgers. We've turned Romo into a dink and dunker and pretty much limit who he is. Romo has shown he can put up points by looking at his efforts in seasons past, but we've completely neutered who Romo is. The kind of OC we've got for him is completely wrong. Callahan is a guy who loves throwing short passes. Romo is a guy who needs to be unleashed to throw down the field. It's no surprise with the combination of the Garrett system and Callahan that we have such an anemic offense.

This seems like what we were doing. We played NOT TO LOSE rather than for the win. I was upset when we were up and yet we kept trying to just run out the clock. In this day and age in the NFL, running the ball to protect the lead is not good enough. You have to outscore your opponent.

I've seen too many games where we will go up 10 and the play calling completely becomes lethargic. It's like they get content and go complacent and just call plays cuz they have to. You can't keep doing three and outs and give the ball back even if you are up and expect to win.
