Boy did this game end ugly.

TO personal foul for taunting after the TD - offset by Shaun Williams retaliation

Another TO personal foul for a late hit after the missed 2 pt conversion. - offset by retaliation by Omar Stoutmire. Stoutmire DQ'd from the game.

Surpised TO wasn't kicked out too after back to back penalties.

Alot of heat was displayed by both squads.

So - in line with the thread's topic - do you believe that getting him the ball in those situations MORE often would have done any good? For whatever reason, he wasn't that dynamic in those situations - which are the situations everyone keeps hoping we put him in (screens, slants, etc.). If he wasn't that effective running them (Age, hand injury...couldn't fight off the line) why would we want to run them more?

No i don't, i think we need to send T.O. on some "real" routes, that allow him to attack spots on the defense, and use his ability to break tackles in the secondary. It's alot easier to break and tackle and take it to the house against a safety or a corner deep down the sideline. As opposed to 2 yards behind the LOS with a CB, LB, and S staring at you.

The best part of this game was that Shockey dropped an easy TD late in the game and the crowd was all over him. This was the game where the security guys had to come down and separate him from yelling at the crowd after he threw ice over his shoulder at them from the bench.

I am not a TO fan at all, but I think his hand hindered his abilities alot more than we think. He could or wouldn't use the stiff arm or use that hand to throw people off him, it had to also slow him down getting off the line in bump situations. Maybe the coachs knew that he was having some problems and that is why they didn't try to involve him in more slants, and quick hits. And used him as a deep threat where he could catch the ball in space. Just a thought.

TO did look unstoppable in that game. Hopefully we can feed him the ball like the WC offenses he played in does?

That is all true. I was just disappointed in the ways they tried to get him the ball. I think he was under utilized in that fashion, especially toward the end of the year. They seemed to limit the types of routes he ran. And that is not really just a complaint about using T.O. I thought the same thing when Joey Galloway was here in Parcells offense. I don't think that offense got the most out of either receiver. Couple that with T.O. dropping the ball and you don't get a great combination. Not that it was bad because he put up good numbers, but it could have been better.

that's because he didn't know all his routes

Uh, bullsht. How many years has TO played WR in the NFL? And you actually think he doesn't know all the routes? Seriously, I don't care what you read in the media, that's the dumbest thing I've heard all year.

I am not saying he did or didn't know the playbook, but just being an NFL player for years has nothing to do with knowing the offensive calls. Every team runs different combo routes which have a unique name so if he didn't know the calls that were being made then he would not 'know the route' he was supposed to be running in a certain situation.

Like I said none of us will know one way or the other, but there was a lot of communication between Romo and T.O. when the huddle broke on more than a few occasions last season. This may have been Romo telling T.O. his responsibility on the play.

dude, TO played in the WCO his whole career and switched to a completely new offense last year, they didn't give him more routes than the ones they had him run because he showed that he couldn't assimilate more, or the coaches felt that he wasn't

exactly, like our offensive system now, the routes are numbered, the system in place last year used a different order

this BS I'm hearing that the coaches wouldn't give him more routes to run is assinine

I just find it extremely hard to believe that having played in a WCO offense for much of his career (a heavily pass oriented offense) that TO didn't 'know the pass routes'. Whether the terminology varies or not, football is football, and a fly pattern is a fly pattern. And whether you like him or not, TO is one of the best wideouts in the league. The guy knows the routes. If the playbook was/is the problem, then maybe it needs to be simplified.

Personally, like many others, I tend to believe his injured hand/finger was the problem. I think we see the real TO this year.
