Watkins fumble recovery

i guess my problem with the new rules is I don't see how the old rules were hurting the game at all. When a guy did something classless before it seems like he still got flagged. Now guys lifting their teamates up after a big play is considered a personal foul. Its all just silly.

Well acting like an idiot is pretty silly to some as well. I get excitment from the game not the side show. I'm only speaking for myself and not passing some moral judgement on others who feel different. The league however wants to clamp down on some of these incidents they feel go over the top. We will see how they comprimise or not over the course of the season into next year.

To me the only thing more irritating than player celebrations is people who continuously complain about player celebrations.

It's really not a big deal to me. We all have the option of not watching.

does your excitement from the game ever manifest itself in a silly or stupid way, I know mine does. I was jumping up and down screaming when watkins was running the fumble back, I was afraid I was gonna cost the team 15 yards.

does anyone have highlights of the plays he made?

Did those of you who saw the game notice if he has improved his "near-fatal" style of tackling?...

I saw him make a good wrap up tackle on Brown or White (i can't recall). It was that play where Ellis went too far upfield when he was unblocked. Watkins wrapped up low, and twisted the RB down. May have saved a TD or at least a big gainer.

Does anyone have a video of this play, cause yea i didnt get to see the game. I was stuck one in houston, two working the TExan Miami game, there was actaully a crowd in the 4th quarter !!!!

I'm guessing that Watkins had a better game because Young was not looking off his receivers as well as an experienced veteran. PW was probably able to watch him a bit more and make a better break on the ball.

But did you realize that Watkins is almost 6'5"?

:D

Which is some consolation, for the talent dropoff from Dwight Smith.

Well "Superpunk", it's because many people get tired of watching these guys act like complete idiots every time thay make a play (you know...what they get paid to do). It's nice (and a bid surprising) to see an FSU DB come into the league, make a big play and act like he's a pro that's been doing this for years. It was refreshing. We've got enough "characters" in this league pulling out Sharpies and doing River Dances. I don't mind and occasional celebration over a huge, game winning, play - but a lot of these guys just want attention. AB dunks over crossbars when his team is losing! Moronic. I am very happy that Watkins slid to us in the draft. That was a gift. His professional behavior thus far has been a bonus.

Hey BigDen,
It happened twice yesterday when an FSU DB made a big play and acted like a pro. Do you remember the frist drive by Dallas when Chris Hope picked off Bledsoe? Hope is another FSU DB that is a class act. I understand what you are saying but you must be more accurate. FSU just happens to have more dbs in the NFL than other schools. A more accurate statement would be any DB that wears #21 has issues (see Smoot and D Hall).

TonyTone, does the name "Deion" ring a bell. Seems to me a guy with that name wore the number "21"...

Players can jump up and down as well, they can also dance. No one took celebration away they are trying to keep it within reason. I know it is hard to believe but there are some of us who are entertained by the game itself and if I watch to watch grown men dance I'll tune into Emmitt this week. :laugh2:

I know but everyone after Primetime anyone that wears the #21 is over the top.

I actually like the Seminoles. My point was about those Florida programs in general (Miami is the worst when it comes to having showboats). There have been quite a few characters coming from those programs over the years. Having said that, I don't mind celebrating during football. It's an emotional game, but it gets ridiculous when players act like they won the lottery over every little play they make. My point is that it's nice to see a young player from a big program (that's had its share of showboats) play with maturity.

I agree. If you make a BIG play, you should be able to celebrate (under the right circumstances). Just don't go overboard.

I was watching some of the Lions game yesterday, and it seemed Roy Williams would celebrate after every first down. That was irritating.

Another thing I can't stand is when players celebrate while being down big w/ the game being almost over and no chance of coming back.

But you need to understand. This for the Lions is equivilent to a TD. And since they don't score TD's, he feels the need to celebrate 1st Downs.
:lmao2:
