We’re Kidding Ourselves

I don't know what a Gregory brings once he is able to have an entire camp under his belt. Gregory was allowed back in October so he was unable to work with the the team very much. Dlaw is very capable of putting up double digit. As for overall ability to rush the passer is 1st off stopping the run and putting teams in obvious passing situation something Dallas rarely did last season. Cowboys had the 2nd fewest passes thrown against them in the league, there was little reason since we could not stop the run and often put teams in great down and distance situation to open up their playbooks.
Church!!!

Guys, it's important to understand that the Seattle scheme, the one we will apparently be running this year, does not generate big sack numbers from the DT position. That's not the role. The pressures and sacks all come from the DEs and LBs. Going out and getting a pass rush, quick twitch type DT will just be a waste of talent and assets. The interior guys in this scheme eat blocks and play gap control. In rushing situations, their job is to push the pocket into the face of the QB to make it more difficult to stand and throw from the pocket. They want to move the QB off his spot. The LEO is the flush guy. His job is to beat the brush if you will. Once the QB is forced to scramble to one side of the field, the LBs run them down if the pass rush from the front 4 doesn't get to them first. So really, the LEO is pretty key. Using a pick on a DT that can beat their block and get pressure is really counter productive in a sense. They play gap control and have definite responsibilities there. If they don't stay true to this responsibility, the scheme is compromised and it will fail. I mean, I know it doesn't make sense, perhaps, but that's really not what you want from you DTs in this Defense.
Can the ones we have push the pocket?

If we think Lawrence, Gregory and Terrell Basham are enough of an edge rush to get it done. I see a lot of mocks with guys taking CB/FS/NT early (1-2), then at best taking an edge rusher in the 3rd or 4th round. That ain’t getting it done. This pass rush isn’t a Bradley Anae or Armstrong away from being dominant. This edge rusher class is deep but not that deep. We have a chance to get a Lawrence type guy at 44. Time to get him.
The reality is there is a need at Edge, however, the need at NT, Safety n CB is so critical we don't have the luxury of looking to a spot with 2 legit starters and a rotational guy.

A full off-season with the team... training, and building with Quinn I think Randy Gregory is set for a double digits sack season provided good health.

To early to tell, to be honest. I think we have some young talent there but I would still like to see a much more physical presence at 0 or 1 tech. I think we can upgrade the position for sure but I also think that we can do that in the later rounds, rather then the 1st round. Barmore is probably a 1st round talent that could help but I think that's a trade down move. JMO

I wouldn't be worried, this is always a high priority for this team. I bet they have a veteran in mind, just waiting for the price to come down.
