Well I'm not saying he has to be perfect or even anything close in the beginning. Though just like Aikman did for us, we need to know he's going to be our guy from day 1. He has to show us he can handle it and make all the fans believe in him. He doesn't have to be perfect. Aikman was anything but perfect those first couple of years, but we knew he was our guy without reservation.
And someone above brought up the example of Tom Brady.. Same exact concept. Wasn't perfect that first year, but you knew he had all the smarts and all the tools from the second he stepped out on that field and took control. There was just no looking back at that point.
Some people are just born leaders. That's what we need. Aikman and Brady are both great examples of instant "Field Generals" with players ready to go to battle with them. That's what we need to know we have. That's the standard I hold Romo up to. Be someone who can take us to war!
And though I never saw Roger play in person, he's still another example of the platinum standard we need to hold our most imporatant position to. 4 years we waited for him. Because we knew!
