Sure seems like a lot of pessimistic opinions on this thread..I'm more more optimistic than most I guess. I seen improvements on this DL throughout the year and believe the influx of youth will pay dividends. Players love playing under Marinelli because of the simplicity of his defensive scheme..which bodes well for the young guys to shine early and hopefully often. Unfortunately, we don't have a true RDE like DWare, but if your thought we was going to get that guy in the draft..then you disappointed yourself. Marinelli intends to use a collection of young disruptive DLineman to get the job done. To stay on topic, I briefly described by opinions and predictions. I went with ten DL, but injuries may sort this out before game day.

1. Taco Charlton (all along DL)
An under appreciated player that won't scream off the edge but will be a handful for OL and reek havoc much like Irving and will earn more snaps toward the end of the year. He is a rookie, so my expectations are tempered, but once he's settled in.. I truly see a 10-12 sack a year player. (5-6 sacks this year)
2. Demarcus Lawerence (Starting RDE)
Like Romo, his back has severely limited his potential the last two years. For his sake, I hope he's finally healthy & ready to show folks what he delievered two years ago when he finished with 8 sacks in 8 games. It is amazing how many players have a 'break out' season during contracts years, so I'll take the odds and say Lawrence will end the season with double digit sacks. (10 sacks)
3. Malik Collins (Starting 3-tech)
A young stud that proved early how disruptive he could be even after missing most of camp with a broke foot. One year later to get stronger and more familiar with Marinelli's scheme, I fully expect great things from him this year, think Warren Sapp..possibly even pro-bowl considerations. (6-8 sacks)
4. Benson Mayowa (RDE)
I'm encouraged by his late surge after a slow start last year, but for some reason I want to temper my expectations, although I still think he will be very valuable in our rotation as one of the few players we have with speed/bend combo. (6 sacks)
5. Cedric Thornton (cut)
Thornton didn't show me much last year, so unless he surprises.. I think Dallas will take the cap hit and choose to go with youth and upside. I'm starting to believe their was a reason the Sheagles let him walk.
6. David Irving (LDE & DT)
Young player that flashed a ton of potential. Most agree he's he could be a stud if more consistent. He's existentially in a contract year and no doubt he wants to get paid. I have high expectations, yet I'm trying to stay reasonable. (8 sacks)
7. Tyrone Crawford (Starting DT)
Hopefully Crawford can stay healthy as it seems he's ailing early every year. He's at his best at DT and has proven to be above average when healthy. At the very least he's a veteran presence that's not a liability. (5 sacks)
8. Charles Tapper (Starting LDE)
I know many will disagree with this and wonder how I can make such a bold prediction, but I believe he has all the tools you look for in a LDE. He has size, speed, and the quick twitch that will field dividends at this position. Besides, he will be rotated out often as will everyone else on this line. I'm a big Tapper fan. I just have a feeling he will surprise a lot of people this year. (6-8 sacks)
9. Damontre Moore (backup End)
I don't have high expectations, but I do have hope that Marenilli can tap into his potential via this scheme. Moore's best attributes shine when he's able to attack the ball. This may very well be Moore's last chance. He can get to the QB, so I see a situational pass rusher with upside if Moore stays committed. (4-5 sacks)
10.Stephen Paea (Backup DT)
Prototypical Marenilli guy. He knows the scheme and was productive prior to playing for Rod. Can he do it again, well that's the question. One thing is for sure, Marenilli trust him. He stays. (2 sacks)

Randy Gregory-
I was a fan of his potential.. and I guess I fell for his promises to our team. He broke his promise to Jerry and Cowboy nation. I'm done even talking about this guy. If he's not in uniform, then who cares.
Jordan Carrell-- practice squad potential

Joey Ivie (secures last spot on DL)
A Florida friend of mine was upset we landed this guy. He said Ivie is very under rated. He basically did the grunt work for Florida's DL while others benefited and was VERY disruptive. He's a fast, quick twitch, big guy that can be coached in the mold of Collins or at least McClain from last year. Aka- a Marenilli guy

Lenny Jones--Practice squad potential
Richard Ash--cut
nice write up and response....I don't see DLaw at RDE and Tapper at LDE as our starters...besides DLaw showed me nothing the little he played RDE last year....then you have Collins at the 3 tech and Ty Crawford as the 1 tech? I dont see that either but as far as your analysis of the players i'm in agreement about their abilities this upcoming year. I also like Ivie and think he makes the final roster.

I think Irving will be the best this year at DE. I believe he's gonna have a huge jump in playing time.

Not sure how many UDFA's we got

Lewis Neal??

I don't see it over crowded I see it as Cowboys actually making changes to improve this defense by getting talent and having them compete for the jobs. Based on what I have read it does not sound like anyone has a safe job on defense. Guys will have to earn it.
