We are exactly where all of you said we would be near season's end...

We are a slightly above average team fight for a playoff spot with a potential 9-7, 10-6 record. Thatw as the consensus of this board at the start of the year. Now that we have reached YOUR expected goals, you want to throw BP to the curb.

Dare I say it, but the term "agenda" seems radily appropriate....

We are exactly where I thought we would be. Yes, it's a little disappointing after going 7-3 but it's not a 10 game season. There is measurable improvement over last year so I'm ok with things.

I've always said we should be grooming AND PLAYING a younger QB at this time so that remains a concern of mine but that is another story/another thread for another time.

Exactly

This was a 6-10 team and we are in the hunt. Do I wish we were 10-4? Sure. But we are on expectation and what we are today - a playoff contender...

Nors, your expectations for this season were absolutely ridiculous... Way, way too optimistic.

The problem is, it's a "what have you done for me lately" type of deal. So as others have said, whats ticking them off is starting 7-3 and then fading.

But for me it's perfectly understandable. Theres not much room for error when you're not a really stout team. We benefitted early by getting all the divsional games at home, not to mention a couple games against the Cards and the Lions. Throw in the Niners for good measure.

Then it was time to pay up.. on the road for the division games and play a couple pretty good AFC teams. Now go on the road to another division leader.

Course had everything been flip flopped and we had started 1-3, we may never have seen the 7-3 run to get us to the same 8-6 because they'd have run Bill out of town after the 1-3 start. ;)

Michael, I gotta give you credit for your consistency in trying to caution many of us who were somewhat overly optimistic in our expectations for this team early on. Even though I predicted a 10-6 finish (which is still Possible), I knew that it would be very tough.

I'm not ready to run big Bill outta town just yet because he has made some decent upgrades to what we had. However, next season will be his third one here and he should be on the same 3 year program as draftees. Get it done then or get the hell out of town.

This is a little narrow-sighted....those of us who suggested 8-8 or 9-7, expected to struggle to get over .500 all year. When the coach and team show that they are better than that, and get to a record of 7-3 with all the playoff talk and then totally tank the end of the season, there is reason to be alarmed and concerned, though i'm for letting BP finish his contract and the job he started.

If I predicted 8-8, and we proceded to begin the season 8-0, then tank it 0-8, I would not be satisfied to have achieved my 8-8 goal. On the other hand, had we begun 0-8, then finished the 2nd half 8-0, I would be much more excited than a fan of any 8-8 team deserves to be. How one finishes the season is important.

Yes, we stunk for a long time, but I think everyone hoped Parcells would be putting a more competitive team on the field than what we've seen over the past 4 weeks.

What ever happened to not looking at W-L, but looking at the team's "progress?"

Great posting, I couldn't agree more. I think that all fans in general are more realistic about expectations during the off-season. During the season judgements get clouded, and anything short of a Superbowl is disaster.

As hard as it was to watch the performance last Sunday, we have got to look big picture. It was the first game of the year in which we got smoked. We have been in every single game this year. To me this in itself is progress.

For me as a fan, I would be just as happy if we didn't make the playoffs this year. I've got me eyes on the big prize in 2 years....imo.

In two years, who do you suppose will be Coaching and Quarterbacking your team to the promised land?

Seems to me like each of us here had or have widely differing expectations for this year's team. I figured 8-8, 9-7 best case, and marveled at those who clamored for the 12-4's or 11-5's. "What are they thinking?", I thought.
Throw the record and expectations out the window for now; as some of you astutely say, it's how the team progresses and improves that matters. And the glowing reviews about this defense, and the future.

If the performance in the last three games serve as charts for that, there's real trouble in River City, folks.
