I would say there's a better chance chance of us drafting a Longhorn...

The Cowboys very rarely draft Longhorn players. And the ones we have didn't turn out so well.

Pat Kirwin likes him..

"Talking with Joseph was like talking to an NFL line coach. He's played against the best, remembers everything about every opponent he faced in his four years at Oklahoma, and has an opinion about all of them. Successful NFL offensive linemen usually are some of the brightest guys on a team and Joseph will fit right into that mold. He recalled little subtleties about Oregon's Haloti Ngata from his junior year, stunts that former USC defensive tackle Shaun Cody used in the Orange Bowl two seasons ago, and what his blocking plan would be when he faces Michigan's Gabe Watson again. Any team who interviewed Joseph walked away knowing he was a sure bet to have a long NFL career."

this is good stuff.. not to toot my own horn, but I do radio in Oklahoma City and I have interviewed Davin Joseph for my sports show a couple of times.. my on air partner and I always looked forward to talking to him above all the other guys because he was such a likable, funny, smart guy that always had some great things to say..

I don't think they will go by what past Longhorn players have done. I also don't think they avoid a player based on the school he went to.

But some of you here want people to think they avoid players because of the school they went to.

We have had bad luck with the Sooner players--minus Roy of course!
come on now.. look at some of the Sooners playing in the NFL right now:

Roy- nuff said
Tommie Harris- Pro Bowler
Mark Clayton- All-Rookie team last year
Brandon Jones- played great for the Titans last year
Mark Bradley- played great before an injury for the Bears last year
Teddy Lehman- solid starter
Andre Woolfolk- solid starter
Derrick Strait- solid player
Jammal Brown- one of the best rookies last year

thats just off the top of my head.. the Sooners are putting some good guys in the NFL these days..

Joseph was a fun player to grade because few offensive linemen have his raw natural strength to be a dominant blocker at the point of attack. While it is always a real concern when an offensive lineman does not block aggressively and play with a sense of urgency on every snap, I believe it is mostly due to Joseph being so much more talented than nearly every defensive lineman he blocks in college. He has very quick feet for such a big, thick-bodied offensive lineman and can block out in space much better than expected when he bends his knees and blocks with a wide base. He has the unusual natural strength to be a dominant and controlling blocker at the point of attack, and can both torque and toss defensive tackles, or can drive them off the ball. Overall, Joseph reminds me a lot of former San Diego Chargers guard Toniu Fonoti in terms of natural strength, but Joseph does not have Fonoti's weight concerns. However, he also does not block with the aggressiveness that Fonoti does. It will take a season or two for Joseph to become the guard he is capable of, but in a season or two, he should be a very good starting guard who physically dominates the defensive tackle consistently.

While the focus tends to be on outside linebacker, free safety or wide receiver, when the current guards on the roster consist of Kosier, Rivera and Peterman ... and the question marks surrounding all three .. you can make a very strong case that guard is actually the biggest need on the team. And unlike safety or outside linebacker, we're not just talking about one starting spot, we're talking both spots. The problem for fans is that offensive guard is a very unsexy pick, but Dallas finds themselves in an unsexy position in an unsexy draft.

That's not what he was saying. He said 'we' as in Dallas. Not the NFL.

yeah, I got that, but my point is that the only Sooner we've had in the last 10 years is Roy.. and he has been our best player.. before that, our last one was Casillas.. and he was dang good.. point being, "lately" the Sooners have been good for us and "lately" the Sooners have been good in the NFL..

It's really unfortunate you guys aren't all OU fans ;)

In all seriousness though, Davin Joseph is a great player. He had to move all around the line for the good of the team this season, and that might have hurt him some. But he also showed that he can do it all. He plays with a mean streak, and he consistently graded out as OU's best offensive lineman on a team that featured Jamal Brown.

Dusty Dvoracek gets miscast by his personality. He's fiery and passionate and wants to win. He's also an extremely hard worker, very intelligent, and a blue-collar, tough football player. I think Parcells would live him, and I think he's be one of those guys who would run through walls for Bill.

JD Runnels probably won't even be drafted, but he's a heck of a FB. He's a real battering ram, and he's a little more agile than he's given credit for. I don't think Dallas is looking hard to fill that position though.

Travis Wilson is another guy that I think is underrated. Again, the OU offense really bogged down at times this season. The QB was young and inexperienced. The line was shoddy. To make matters worse, Wilson was injured. He's someone who will be a very good receiver in this league even if he won't be a true #1.

Eric Bassey is an enigma to me. I think he is to OU coaches and other fans too. He's got great size. He's got great speed. He's a solid tackler. He has experience at every DB position. For some reason, things just never completely clicked for him. Some of it may have been his personal problems with the scheme. Of course, the biggest part of it was that he was the guy who replaced Roy Williams and later Derrick Strait. Not fun.

Chris Chester is a converted TE who can play all of the interior line positions. He's a real athlete. He might be raw, but he has a lot of upside. He really endeared himself to the coaches.

Lets just say that now that Quincy Carter is off the team, my least favorite Cowboy is Roy Williams.

He was who I wanted Dallas to draft, but that doesn't mean I like him.

The Switzer era was the low point of my fanhood.

Better dead than Red.

Sorry, I'm not a Texas fan. Would be hard to care less about them than I do.
