We Are Not Using Turpin Enough!

On offense, we have one playmaker CD Lamb while our other playmaker rides the pine 90% of the time. What are they thinking to keep Turpin on the bench while our offense struggles so much this season? I will say Turpin is a decent receiver but not a great one, but if the Rams, Chiefs, Bills, 49ers, Ravens, etc had Turpin they would find a way to have him heavily involved in the offense. Turpin's long runs have clocked his elite speed better than S. Barkley so it makes no sense to keep him off the field.

Below are some no brainer ideas.
  1. Throw the bomb to Turpin at least twice a game
  2. Have Turpin run long patterns to stretch the defense which will open up some short and med routes
  3. Jet sweep & fake jet sweep to Turpin multiple times per game
  4. Have Turpin in at running back for special packages (could put Turpin AND Trey Lance in the same package
And our offensive line might not be good enough to protect for longer passing routes so keep a TE or an extra TE in the game for some of those plays. It's frustrating to watch one of the NFL's most electric playmakers relegated to the bench to watch our underachieving offense sputter. Geez.

MM needs to open the playbook wide open; I say they should throw Deuce Vaughn into the mix as a slot receiver, with Turpin as a running back in motion. It's hard to cover little dudes running routes all over the playing field and Rush is night and day over Prescott when it comes to finding his second or third targets.

I agree with you.
I would have thought McCarthy would have figured out a more effective package of plays designed to get Turpin open in space by now. Rather than just the predictable jet sweep or screen.
Turpin's speed is just being wasted.

I thought they tried to use him more yesterday against NY (at least it seemed that way to me).

Either way, I agree, they do need to get him involved. He is a playmaker.

He’s getting more and more opportunities but he’s not going to be our number one target and we can’t have him run the ball several times a game. His size is always give him some limitations.

This is one of the reasons why McCarthy needs to go.

Turpin should be on the field simply to stretch the defense and clear out things underneath the safeties. He should be used on slants from the slot, and just run him straight deep through the middle of the field or on one side, where the safeties have to sprint just to keep up...and then they could slide all the other receivers underneath Turpin's route. Football 101. They don't even have to throw to him that often way down the field, he can just be a deep-threat decoy on most passing plays.

But there are going to be times when teams are playing zone, and Turpin will likely streak past the safety and be wide open by 3 to 5 yards.

He truly IS the Cowboys deep threat, so he should be on the field WAYYYY more often, and used in the passing game, not just for screens and jet sweeps.

But, it's McCarthy so.... Dead. Coach. Walking.

He saw an expanded work load yesterday and it worked out pretty well! I agree that he is not a great receiver. I'd say a little above average but he is still a huge home run threat.

Turpin is proving his game worth, he is a playmaker.
Just think how creative this offense could be with Deuce being introduced as well.

And I started this thread 15 min before kickoff, but I’m glad they appear to start using him more.

Here’s an idea. Offer him a contract. He’s a restricted free agent in 103 days. He’ll be 29 before the start of next season. I know the Cowboys are not strong on figuring out what they want to do, but if he’s a “keeper” they may want to contact his agent sooner than later.

This is something that should have been discussed and worked into the offense in TC. MM probably didn’t plan on Turpin being much involved in the offense game plan, to be used primarily only as KR or PR.. goes to show what a limited offensive mind MM has.

Regardless what happens with MM, Turpin needs to be used like Tyreek Hill, K Hunt, D Samuel, etc. Too late to turn this season around.
