We can trade 2018 comp picks

A wrinkle I just learned about. If we want to move up in this year's draft, we can trade next year's comp picks. Because we've lost so many guys, we should get multiple 4's and 5's to deal. I'm not sure the exact formula, but it appears we will have this ammo to make a deal. If there is a pass rusher or CB we really like in 1st or 2nd, we should go get him. We won't need all the mid-round picks next year.

They can't trade picks they haven't been awarded yet. They can trade their regular picks next year with the knowledge they will likely get several mid round comp picks to replace them.

Right, as our 2018 comp picks will not be awarded until the beginning of March in 2018.
However, not a good idea to trade picks this year expecting those comp picks next year. These are based are player contracts, and as well, or used to be, performance based.
Many of these contracts may have bonuses tied to them. Or what if they are injured and released. Therefore no comp pick.

We are up 6 players though, so most likely we should still get those 4 picks.

If things don't break right next year, this means Jerry Jones wheeling and dealing after an embarrassing step back season.

What could possibly go wrong?

The FO knows what they can and can not do in the draft. They don't need advice from the peanut gallery (Draft Zone).

You can't trade what doesn't exist you yet. Those picks won't materialize until next March.

Comp picks in low rounds are not valuable trade commodities. Throwing in a 5th/6th rounder will nudge you higher in the 4th round, but won't get you much higher than moving from #32 -> #29.

I bet there are still a bunch of people who think we will get a bounty of picks.

We can only get four, and it is questionable if any one of them will be above the end of the 4th round.

As others have stated...You can't trade NEXT years Comp picks THIS year because they have not awarded next years comp picks yet.

However if you wanted to try and play the system I guess if you believe you will get a (for this scenario) a 3rd, 4th and 5th round pick next year (giving you two picks in each round)...you could trade next years 3rd 4th or 5th round pick (the ones you get every year barring previous trades or league infractions) in the hopes that when next year's draft role around your comp picks will replace the picks you already traded this year.

I don't know that that is a very good idea because of a couple of reasons.

By trading next years picks that seems to indicate you are trying to move UP in this years draft and are willing to take LESS players to get better (your hopes) quality players. Normally that might be a decent idea but when you have a number of players that you need to obtain due to a good number of players leaving, just to have a starting defense let alone quality backup in all areas...trading away picks might not be the best strategy at this time.

And I hope that this is not some crazy idea or attempt to package a butt load of picks to move up all the way to the first pick in the draft to take a pass rushing DE from Texas A&M.

You can't trade what you don't have yet.

:lmao2:One draft made a 4-12 team a 13-3 team. Good story bro.
It is still ONE draft.

You know that thing that is done every year and when it doesn't turn out right, people like you say it is a "crap shoot"?
