We can't realistically be fans of this team until 2026!

They have 10 draft picks, 1 could be top 5 that could give them a top 3 player. They could end up with 3 or 4 picks in the top 65. They also should have around 100 million in cap space.
If a top 5 draft pick, they best draft a QB. If Jerry wants to show the fans he is serious about winning, as well as the future. That is what needs to be done.
none of this Dak friendly improve the team around him crap. That has not worked in 9 years. It did not help Romo either.

They would probably trade down to get more picks that will not make a difference like a young top QB would.

Some or most are lifetime fans, just like any team's fans. All fans are not lifers, no matter what they say or feel at any given time.

I thought I would be a lifetime Philadelphia 76ers fan in 1977. My fanship ended in 1992 when Charles Barkley was traded to the Phoenix Suns.

My example is not typical and does not apply to all examples of temporary fanship. Quitting as a fan happens for all kinds of reasons but the reasoning behind it is always the personal choice of the fan. It does not happen because of some wild assumption, thought into existence by a caffeine starved fanatic. :)
Iverson didn't bring you back?

I think he is my all time favorite athlete in any sport. This year's team is tough to watch, though.

They also will have a lot of historically bad teams on the schedule next year.
Unfortunately probably not. The last place schedule the Cowboys would get if they finish 4th in the division isnt looking as nice as it would be in normal years. They get the NFC South and West. The NFC West 4th place team as of right now is SF. If Carolina beats us this year they may be able to pass NO in the standings as well.

exactly what I mean!!!! I'm not saying don't be a fan, I'm really just saying be careful!!!!! If I said that or gave that impression my bad, I know how most of you guys love the Cowboys more than things you really should love in life (speaking in general)
Why be careful?

I know of only one way to be a fan. The way I have always been a fan. ALL IN.
Even in 1988 ans 1989 ... I was ALL IN ...

Yes many fans, including myself are down right now. But I am still the same fan.

Realistically, anyone can quit being a fan. It is entirely voluntary. Otherwise, anyone can remain a fan, of any team, of any sport, for as little or long as they desire.

There is never any coercion. No one holds a gun to anyone's head enforcing an unwanted decision. It is always about personal choice. Please. Give me your thoughts.
I’ve been a fan of this team since Don Meredith. And then the military Roger Starbuck. Is when I truly appreciated what Mr. cowboy meant. I don’t know where all the cowboys have gone, but I still believe in the star and what it represents. Go Cowboys.

I hereby propose this to be accepted as a standard policy:

A fan is a fan, whether his or her team happens to be a winning team or not.

No one should be rejected due to their decision to keep their status as a fan.

Being the fan of a chosen team must not rely upon that team being a winner.

The freedom of choosing a team must remain intact, regardless of its record.

Coog, I think some people took you too literal.

I think we’ll all remain fans, but many of us will have tempered expectations. We’ve invested too much emotion into this team to ever turn our backs on them. That said, it’s fair to be critical and adjust the level of our enthusiasm based on how each season unfolds.

I want this team to do well but ultimately I know while the clowns run this circus they will never make it to a conference championship game.

No he didn't, although I did enjoy watching him play whenever I caught a Sixers game. I am kinda the black-and-white, no gray area type of guy.

It was permanent when I stopped being a 76ers fan. It hurt when that idiot owner, Harold Katz, decided to go in a different direction without Chuck. My love died for the franchise. There was no recovery for me from that.

Heck. I stopped watching the NBA full-time after Chuck re-located as well. Now, I barely watch a handful of games throughout the year.

Don’t get me wrong we are a bad football team. Every move Jerry made backfired. I just think we had injury bad luck. We lost everyone of our defensive ends for heaven’s sake and our starting quarterback. A new coaching staff, some free agents, good draft, and good injury luck changes everything.
but it's odd the amount of injuries that have happened on this team, I'll give you that, but ask yourself this........... If we were "better this season, made a better effort in the off season, would players have been able to "come back " sooner from injury??? It makes you wonder!!

They might if they climb to a top 3 position in the draft. For example, the Lions, a team that has never won anything is now in the running for a championship.

Being a fan and expecting to win are two different things and maybe you meant the latter.

I have no problem losing if in the middle of a rebuild….with an actual plan, with a real front office.

People would likely be more accepting of the down cycle we are just now entering if the FO didn’t decide to blow the last window by being too cap conservative. Obviously that didn’t help anything.

They blew the window prior to that one because Jerry just HAD to be right about Garrett. Even when they collect enough players to get themselves into having a reasonable shot, they have no idea what to do with it, one way or another.

So, I’m fine with a rebuild, but not fine with Jerry and his kid doing it. I’ll just watch them try to patch up what’s left and try to convince the world that the bad football we are watching isn’t happening. Then maybe after a few bad seasons we get some actual qualified people running the team. That’s what’s my hope has been reduced to.

They've had top 5 draft picks before. And i'm not suggesting they can't build a good team but that is about where they stop. Build a team that can make the playoffs but not go over the top for a better chance to actually win in the playoffs.

This season was a waste, and somehow in 2025, we're going to make all these MOVES and spend money that we could have spent in 2024. If that gets you happy, and causes you to be back on the Cowboys hype train, something is wrong! I feel cheated as a fan that we didn't do anything this past off season, and because we have more money (we could have created cap space by doing things we've already talked about in these forums), it's going to be ALL-in in 2025, i'm not buying it. I feel like we'll need time to evaluate this team from the 2024 off season vs the 2025 off season. It's going to get really really interesting, hold on to your seats guys and gals!!
I only wanna be a fan when we’re winning
Think about that statement.
Sounds kind of cowardly to me.
I love defending this team and why I’m a fan
People usually back right off when I say it too
Maybe it’s because I’ve been training for over 50 years, lol
But I like to think of it because they realize it’s not because I’m winning or losing.
It’s loyalty to something
