we're WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY too talented to play as poorly as we have, plain and simple. Yes, I agree that we've been outcoached in the games we've lost dating to many of those last season.
It's pathetic how our defense has played despite all the talent and first round draft picks and draft picks in general that we've thrown at it. Half the players would go anywhere, ANYWHERE, else in the league and start. In fact, some of our 2nd stringers on defense like Ratliff, Hatcher, Burnett, and Keith Davis would start for 90% of the teams out there and would probably be studs for them. The product is LESS than the sum of its parts and that is directly attributable to coaching. Its attributable to scheming and putting players in positions to succeed and playing to your strengths. Yes, as BP would say, its also about execution. But when you continually lose for the same reasons over and over and look outcoached in most of your losses, you tend to stop blaming the players.
We just have to take the shackles off our defensive playmakers. We played conservative and still got burnt with big plays so what do we give up by gambling a little more often? We have to create more turnovers on defense. We have great coverage but with 6-8 seconds to throw because Ware is double-teamed and one guy, like a FS, gives a WR a crease and every defensive player's effort for that play and series is wasted. I'm willing to take a few more chances. I know that comes from the peanut gallery but I'm sick of inferior teams playing us tough and many times beating us for the exact same reasons over and over.
Our defense, with our players, should flat out be dominant, plain and simple.
Our offense, with our players, should flat out be potent. Obviously we'll have more trouble with some of the better teams in the league but its undeniable that we have more playmakers and more talent than 90% of the teams and definitely more than the two teams we've lost to this season.
Another factor which is also directly tied to coaching:
Bledsoe isn't going to get us there. He continually fails in the big games. Teams blitz him and rattle him and its over. No team and no offensive line can give a QB the kind of time and protection that Bledsoe needs to succeed against good teams. Even Payton and Brady have to move around a little bit to buy some more time. Bledsoe can't. He holds the ball, gets hit, then gets rattled and becomes mostly worthless.
I dont' know if Romo is the answer and I've been a Bledsoe apologist since he was in NE, but its time to move on. Romo will make some mistakes but I'm willing to bet that he'll make some big plays too.
If we blow out Houston and still don't see Romo get some quality time and throw some meaningful passes then all my faith in BP will be lost. He seems to be the only guy on the planet who hasn't reached the obvious conclusion that we aren't going to the SB with Bledsoe, in fact, we may not even get to the playoffs this year with him. I'd at least like to see Romo get a half like Henson did. At some point you have to find out about other solutions when the one you keep trying unsuccessfully doesn't work.
ahhh, I'm sick of the way we play and coach.
