We had opportunity to draft a premiere Edge to replace Parsons but passed both times

I know. Downs is solid pick and fills a big need at Safety. And Lawrence was on our board for #20 at Edge . And it could turn out. Time will tell.

But we had the opportunity to draft one of the top edge rushers in the draft with Bain Jr and or Mesidor. Which I’d argue would have gone a lot further to potentially replacing Parsons. A priority for me.

After selecting Downs if we had stayed put at # 20, Mesidor was there. And that would have been great and I could have felt an excellent night.

But Im left with selecting Lawrence could be more of a risk. And I’ll be watching to see if Bain Jr and or Mesidor have greater impacts than Lawrence. Hopefully it won’t be like passing on Watt for Taco.

I’ll give Jethro a B maybe B+ for addressing key weaknesses and need . But Im not sure will be the immediate impacts needed. But selecting either of these other Edge I would have elevated to A or A+.

I never put a lot of faith in draft picks until they show it on the field, but from purely a position standpoint, the Cowboys have tried fixing the edge position and either failed to do it or are still waiting to see if their past picks will pan out.

This team got beat bad down the field so they really needed to finally address the defensive back problem they have.

Again, I never put much faith in draft picks until they earn it so I'm not saying Downs was the best pick and normally safety is not something you see teams draft high in the first round, but the Cowboys cannot keep throwing high round draft picks at edge rushers every year without eventually having to focus on other positions of need on the defense.

Mesidor too old and a late bloomer. He has one good year.

I agree. And why I would have been fine taking Downs and Mesidor .

But most def gurus I admire maintain great defenses begin up front with a pass rush. Even the greatest secondary’s can’t cover without pressure.

All I’m saying is we had the opportunity to make a bigger splash. As always time will tell. Just my take .

And it was a fabulous year. Anyone who watched the college playoffs watched how Bain Jr and Mesidor for Miami disrupted and dominated .

Mesidor isn’t the only highly drafted player with only one good year.

We shall see. Time will tell. I’ll be watching.

Both the Miami edge guys are plug and play. Wish we could have one of them. Malachi is good but raw. Can play snaps but won't be starting year 1. By year 3 we can circle back to see who out of the 3 are doing well.
Yep. Downs and Mesidor could have been a big splash.

People think short arms is not a real thing and because Bain was a star in college, he will be a star in the NFL. If Bain EVER gets 10 sacks in a season, he will literally be the first guy at any position, DE or OLB, to get 10 sacks with arms as short as his in the entire history of the NFL.

Good luck to Bain, but that’s a gamble Iwas not excited about.

Yeah I get that, but we schwindled the eagles out of two 4th rounders replacing the two 5ths we had to give to get Downs.

Although it would not have stopped me, Cowboys brass were worried about Mesidors age. They have stated that they were not drafting Baine due to his incredibly short arms.

Lawrence is a little more raw, but that is it. He is a speedster, uses his arms well, and can only get better. He is not just another DE in name only that can play the run, but rather someone who can go after the QB. This will be a fun pick to watch. I believe someone said that CP pushed for him.

Ok. How did you feel about Mesidor. Why would you rather have Lawrence?

I watch a lot of Big 12 football. And I don’t recall Lawrence standing out like Mesidor at Miami.

What’s weird is professional scouts ignoring the short arms.

That is such a massive disadvantage & just because he got away with it in college doesn’t mean he will in the pro’s.

Also, I’m not sure what position he could even play for us.

I'd take Lawrence and the picks over Mesidor and Downs over Bain. We made the right moves
