I’m trying to recall the last time we’ve been so critical of a perennial All Pro and what most considered a generational talent ?

Yes he was responsible for stopping the run when it went his way. That is the whole issue I have. Teams would intentionally run his way because he didn’t focus on stopping the run when it went his way. He only focused on his sacks and pocketbook. He was one of the best at one thing only and a liability at the rest.

And if you’re a generational talent, don’t you think that they should show up in the most important games or not be gassed by the end of the season? The best players in the league usually play their best when the season or playoff game is on the line. Micah was non existent in those situations.

I’ve heard that. Why wasn’t he first defensive player taken?

He’s a safety. Teams above had other needs. Late rumor put out there that he had a knee issue. Lots of reasons that are just plain obvious.

Maybe I’m being a little harsh. The rest of the team around him was crap and that was also a big part. But there is no way we were going to improve the team with his new salary when we couldn’t even do it on his rookie deal. Yes you can blame Jerry for that but it doesn’t change the facts.

Cowboys are probably screwed regardless with Jethro. But it was sure fun having such a great talent . If only we had more.

True to a certain point. The middle was porous but so was Micah. He did cover up other deficiencies however.

I’m trying to recall when some Cowboy fans were so down on one of the greatest talents at least this era wearing a star on his helmet.

And it mostly revolves around his contract negotiation which fans begun buying into Jethro’s whining and attempting to negotiate in public why he wanted to pay less.

We all knew he was going to fetch Market Price contract becoming highest paid non QB in the league . It was a matter of how much. But Jethro has received so much criticism for Caving on these big contracts he played public perception which ultimately cost him in negotiating as Parsons demanded a trade.

And then many fans begin spinning the narrative it was a strategy to rebuild the defense with the 2 first round picks albeit derailing the defense basically washing out the 2025 season.

Fans continue attempting to discount the talent level, accomplishments and impacts Parsons made trying to fault him for lack of more playoff success or stopping the run despite 3 All Pros, 4 Pro Bowls and defensive rookie of the year becoming only 2nd to have 12+ sacks in first 4 years.

Most critics considered Parsons a generational talent causing incredible disruption and pass rush Cowboys hadn’t seen in years and he became a fan favorite until contract negotiations which most analysts and critics blamed on our dysfunctional ownership.

It’s one thing to try and deal with and attempt to make the best out of a bad situation moving forward but to attempt to discredit one of our best players in order to support the trade is pitiful.

I’m hopeful we can build a better defense without him which he will be credited with cause of the 2 1st round picks.

But Micah will go down as one of the greatest Cowboys talents this era . And arguably the greatest talent in Cowboys history we failed getting resigned to a second contract .

And until we have revamped our pass rush with another Edge rusher Parsons will continue to be missed.

It’s entirely possible with all of the compensation we have produced from the trade we can certainly rebuild a better defense without him. No one is disputing.

But we should be praising the compensation we have produced as a result instead of attempting to discredit his talent , impacts and ultimately what we have received as result of his departure.

In other words I’d argue it can be spun in a much brighter light for both Parsons and how the Cowboys are moving forward.

Cowboys were working on the false step in the first practice.



There are many prospects discussed as options at 20 for DAL, but I think Malachi Lawrence deserves consideration as well. My EDGE5 (Just above Howell). Still has some technical inefficiencies (note the false step on his get-off in the clip) and needs refinement as a run defender but he's exceedingly athletic with a good frame and understands how to marry his power/contact-based rushes with his finesse/parry/slip rushes to keep OTs off balance.

He has one of the highest ceilings in the edge class.



Have been asked by a few people to highlight where Lawrence can improve, and I think his get-off is the spot where he can see the biggest improvement.

He routinely false steps (picking up his front foot first, rather than rolling off his front foot) when firing out of his 2-point stance, which dampens his get-off. Luckily, he's quite explosive through Steps 2-4, but if he can clean up his get-off, it will really unlock his ability to threaten with speed, especially playing from wide-9 alignments.

Also, notice Lawrence's shin angles, as they are quite obtuse, which also limits his ability to get off explosively. I think this has to do with some ankle tightness that shows up occassionaly when he's trying to corner at high speeds.

That means we could have actually had Bains and Mesidor in 1st round if we’d stayed put.

Maybe the greatest Edge Rush combo drafted in 1st round by same team in NFL history. That definitely would have been a great replacement of Parsons by any stretch of the imagination.

Or potentially two 1st rd busts.
Many don't believe that Bain will live up to his college production levels with his t-rex arms.
And many also think Mesidor will flame out in about 5 years.

Anything is possible. That’s the beauty of the draft. We can monitor their development , careers and impacts to their teams success in comparison to ours.
