Not saying it wasn't smart cutting ties with non-phenomenal veterans, but you don't cut ties with 5 veteran DBs with nobody to replace them.

That's always been my problem. I'm big on contingencies and this front office doesn't seem to see the necessity of them. A lot of this is the "new" strategy of not overpaying, but the problem with that strategy is that if you don't get the cheap replacements right then you take a step back. We've definitely taken a step back in the secondary with the scouts/coaches missing on Church's replacement (Heath) and Carr/Claiborne's replacement (Carroll).

Before the end of the year, we may take a step forward with Lewis, Awusie and Woods, but we didn't plan well for the interim. Scandrick and Jones are good enough to win with as starters IMO. Brown is a good role player, but we counted on him to be more than that or counted on Carroll to be able to start. Then, we did little at the safety position other than elevate a role player and cross our fingers. Sure, we drafted a sixth-round safety, but that's not really a plan.

Yeah I'm happy going with Lewis/Awuzie/Woods over Carr/Claiborne/Church. But they shouldn't be relied on as starters. Look at the DL. Imagine if we were relying on Taco and Tapper right now. I don't care where a rookie was drafted. If you're relying on them, you failed building a competent roster. That's why I like those 1-2 year deals for veteran players. There's no long term commitment and you can continue to build around your young guys. But you can't sign a veteran who can't even beat out your rookies.

That's worked well in our 3 losses this year.

At some point we need to D up.

We have a pass rush. Everyone goes on and on about how important a pass rush is. Well we have one and I want to see them do something with it.

2 of those 3 were also without Sean Lee
