We Need A #2 Receiver... Bad!!!

Someone explain to me why Crayton isnt a legit #2.

Look around the league. Not everyone has 2 superstar receivers.

Plus there is just about nothing Crayton cant do on the field.

He has improved every year and I expect nothing but improvement again this season.

I don't think there's necessarily "confidence" in our WRs outside of TO and possibly Crayton (I'm not counting Glenn right now). But right now, we realize we're probably going into the season with the guys we have.

Here's to hope.

And really, you have to sort of hope when you have young guys. There's some natural athletic ability with a lot of our guys.

Hope.......that means sitting on your duff wishing someone or something drops into your lap..........

Desire.......getting after it.....being pro-active in getting something done ..or better yet....Jerry going out and doing something himself about a probelm

3rd down and 10, NFC championship game, losing by 6 and need a TD with less than 2 minutes left.

T.O. Doubled, Witten covered, do believe in Austin beating his man one on one to make a critical catch... i dont think so..

We were #2 or #3 in scoring and total offense last year yet the sky is falling because we are stuck with Crayton at #2 if Glenn can't play, just like last year.

The only way we get in trouble at WR is if TO gets hurt. Otherwise we go with what we have. If Jerry can add a vet (Boldin or Williams) that would be great.

Oh ok, as long as he doesn't get hurt..

If you think about it we could be one injury away then..

I do wonder whether the lack of a #2 WR is partially responsible to the decline in offensive production late in the year. I think teams decided to try and limit TO and Witten while decreasing the attention they were putting on the running game and Crayton.

I doubt Crayton will be much better this year and I also doubt any of the developing WRs is going to develop into a good #2 this year. I think the key will ultimately establishing a potent running attack - the talent is there at RB and OL. It is now just a matter of having the proper coaching (Houck >> Sprano at OL).

I'm sorry but what is with all this talk about the confidence in Hurd, Austin, and Stanback?

TO makes #2's look like #1's, #3's look like #2's etc.
(see Crayton last year). He may have showed signs, but he is in no way a #2.

What has Hurd, etc shown you guys? Seriously! They are practicing without pads out there.

Now I know we have Witten, but imagine Crayton back where he belongs as a #3, and adding can I say a #2 receiver such as R Williams, wait he's a #1 isn't he? Imagine the TO formula for making a #1 into a ?

Food for thought guys, our offense would be potent, you all remember what happened when TO went down.. If we do have R Williams and TO went down we wouldn't be as potent, but we will still be dangerous.

WR is our weakness and keeping us for going over the hump.

Majority of you will be against this, but who agrees?

We have our number two already. Get a grip. Who was more valuable? Harper or Novacek?

Yeah, I agree. The lack of a high quality #2, along with Owens being banged up at the end of the year, slowed things down.

And like you say, this year the extra push will likely have to come from the running game.

Crayton is a legit #2 - it would be nice however to have a legiterer #2.

New to the board?

I was a member right when this board opened.. see the date.

Sorry, saw the post count but not the date. My apologies, but then you should have known about the many receiver posts we've had. Would have liked to have had your opinion in those. Anyways, it's always nice to have a new voice to talk to, even if it's been silent for awhile :D

Why? He beat his man over and over again. He just didn't get the ball thrown his way. T.O. has more drops than anyone but the ball keeps coming his way so at some point it has to be ok to throw to someone else who is always open but has dropped a ball here or there. Crayton, on the other hand, has made a name for himself as being the best hands on the team if not the nfl, but he has nothing else. He isn't going to run away or bust open on a long one, for anything. So when he misses a catch it means something because there is no threat there to go the distance on the next catch. Austin get open deep constantly. I think we owe it to ourselves to try...seriously try.

Agreed, at the end of the day any potential weakness could come back to haunt them. Some would say thats what happened when TO banged up. Why risk it? Its not like we didnt have a chance to draft a WR or even sign one. We didnt have to go out of our way and we certainly didnt NEED a TE more than a WR.

Fool me once...

We need a #2 far less than many the league need a true #1. I like our chances.

My issue with Crayton at #2 isn't so much his production which is about league average for #2 WRs. My big beef with him is his lack of speed denies us a vertical threat opposite TO. Such a threat would create more space for TO and Witten to work underneath and possibly create some more room in the running game.

I keep telling people, watch out for Miles Austin in OTA's and training camp.

I hear ya, but the last thing we need is another camp wonder that doesn't show up when it really counts. Hopefully, his OTA and training camp performance carries over into the regular season. Austin has a good chance to be the "X" factor.
