We Need A #2 Receiver... Bad!!!

I think that our receiving corp is fine, just give the guys that we have a chance. I know that everyone complains about a legit #2 receiver, but in my opinion we do not need a big name like R. Williams or C. Johnson. The corp we have is quick, smart, and I believe able to handle the pressure. If we don't ever let these guys have a chance how will we ever know what they can do. Remember T.O. was in there shoes at one time, but they gave him a chance to play and he shined. So please everyone stop complaining about we need a legit #2 receiver because we are fine where we are at.

Jerry and company tried to upgrade at wr, but we all know he was unsuccessful. We have no choice but to hope the young guys develop.

My issue with Crayton at #2 isn't so much his production which is about league average for #2 WRs. My big beef with him is his lack of speed denies us a vertical threat opposite TO. Such a threat would create more space for TO and Witten to work underneath and possibly create some more room in the running game.

Exactly. We need a #2 WR with serious speed. Only two WR on the roster today have speed -- (a) Austin - bad hands, and (b) Stanback - complete unknown. Maybe Jerrah wasn't kidding about using Pacman as a wide out to give us some speed.

In fact, our #2 should be able to carry us if T.O. is out for a game....not sure that guy is on the roster today. But I am hopeful one of the young guys steps up big time.

One thing we know for sure is that if TO goes down we are in a world of hurt.
The D's will be able to play tight and hard and also crunch down on the running game. Without a deep threat to scare them, its a bad situation. That is why Glenn is so important, and if he is not able to go, why either Austin or Stanback needs to show something. Austin does not scare anyone, as he drops too many and is just not good enough. stanback of course has done nothing so the D will not respect him either.

Jason Witten is probably puts fear into more teams than Owens does. With those 2 guys we have 2 excellent receivers. We don't need a great 2 or 3 WR. Just guys that do the job in those spots. Crayton has definitely proven that. I think Hurd has shown promise but he and the others have a ways to go. We may need a WR in the draft next year because of the age of TO. But he's still in his prime. He's not going to drop off this year or maybe not even the next few years.

The Cowboys offense was one of the teams best EVER last year.

Until Owens got nicked up, then it seems all of the other 'weapons' vanished too.

we do need a speed receiver though, doens't have to be the #2 since you only typically attempt 3-4 deep passes a game anyways

Crayton and Owens seem to have enough speed last year.

I wouldn't mind drafting a WR next year. It's probably going to be a stronger WR class anyway. But we don't really need a WR right now. We have one of the best offenses in the NFL without another WR.

I agree with that line of thinking. With Witten, TO, Crayton, and the crew...we are far better than most out there.

But, if the bottom of the depth chart doesn't make huge strides this season, I think next season would be a good year to use a pick or two on a WR and/or try to pick up one in FA. Once again, it depends on the value of what is available.
