Hey guys, just a thought about RB position for the Cowboys, just a little fan talk.

I'm not excited about Morris. Yes, I think he's a capable RB for spot duty but long term is the question.

Some will say a RB NFL life is 4-5 years, well McFadden and Morris are both past that mark. Also that's an avg lifespan. Most good to great RBs play 10+ years. Not the Derrick Lassic's, Felix Jones and a host of other 4-5 year RBs.

Just think Dallas has always being about a great RB, it's no coincidence that Murray ran for 1800 and we had our best season in 17 years then he leaves- granted injury- we have our worse record in 27 years.

There is normally 3 positions I say Dallas is known for drafting their own. That's QB (Staubach-Aikman ,
RB (Dorsett- Emmitt) , WR (every #88 except Antonio Bryant).

We can always grab a young HOF impact player in FA at any position (granted we might overpay) except what position? QB and RB! Peyton Manning not included

That's all I'm saying, food for thought.

I'm back....... I missed you guys....

Couldn't agree more. Zeke could have filled the spot for years to come and at a good price. In 2 years he would be in his prime and the offense could have been jelling. Instead we get a RB that was benched but everyone expects to bounce back for no other reason than he will. In 2 years both will be over 30 and we'll be looking again.
Hard to believe Jerry wants to emphasize the run but wont get a RB.

A great OL helps a good rb, ala Murray. Pretty sure we will still draft a rb. Dunbar is expected to start season on pup.

I was hoping for Zeke as well; even to the point to where I was thinking Morris would replace McFadden and the Cowboys would cut him, drop down a couple of spots and draft Zeke.

I think people are way too quick to write off Zeke as an option just because of the Morris signing. I bet he is just as in play now as he ever was. Writing him off because we got Morris is like writing off Ramsey because we're keeping Carr.

Well the team tries to trade for Murray, they tried to sign Miller. Last season they dropped hints publicly of wanting to trade for AD not to mention they visited every back in the draft. The draft just didn't work out, I believe if Gregory didn't fall to the second, we liked a few players there.

The team has shown they are interested in making a significant upgrade, nothing about McFaddens or Morris's contract guarantees them a roster spot. I fully expect them to draft someone...where? That depends on how the draft falls.

Maybe even trade one of them to Miami since they are looking for another RB

Jerry came our saying drafting a qb or rb at 4 now is unlikely

I hope your right

Not really a stud in the group. Spiller and Mathews have been decent at times but way too many injuries.

More recently, 2011 Murray and Ingram were the only two hits from the top 10, 2012 has Martin and Miller, 2013 and 2014 don't appear to have much either...so, it is really hard to draft a Rb with the expectation they are gonna last more than 5 years.

I agree, but have to take zeke at 4 if dallas is going to draft him. I don't understand why you wouldn't want a young dynamic back taking advantage of this oline. Philly or Giants will grab zeke if dallas doesn't draft him at 4. Zeke is most likely playing in the nfc east and I sure don't want to deal with odell n zeke or zeke period for the next 5 yrs.

With their mediocre O lines it isn't as bad as you think it will be.

I have been calling for Elliot, if those guys cannot see that he is a very important piece to our success, I will be very upset but I will get over it, it would be no use complaining about spilled milk. But until the draft I will put all my energy toward them drafting Elliot, I do not care how they go about doing it, but get it done.
I say take him before you get any QB in the draft.

\.

The good ones last, not the bust. Injury does play a big role and a lot of the RB's drafted got freak injuries in their 1st year.

But still have to trust.

2010- I actually thought Gerhart was the best back, I was more upset that the Vikings drafted him so early when they had a young Peterson.
2009- Moreno wasn't a cant miss prospect. Brown was a reach. Wells ole well.
2008- draft wasn't that bad . But we draft a college backup rb in the first like we had the luxury of doing that
2007- Peterson was a cant miss from the get.
2006- Yes Bush was a disappointment.
2005- good back but none was considered cant miss especially after Peterson killed Benson as a true freshman.

We need a RB.
We paying 20+mil to a QB
A top notch TE
a top notch WR
A top notch OL
2 high paid CBs and a 1st rounder last year
High paid LB (Lee)
Had a DE making 12+ last year

But we have a RB by committee, 2 cast off and one coming off knee surgery. Enuff said.

Exactly the same thing my brother said. He said "watch Dallas pass on Zeke and watch the Giants or Philly get him, then watch how he kills us for the next 7 years"

Dude, went through multiple years of running backs....it basically is down to like one a yr that lasts more than 4-5 years, and often times it isn't the most highly drafted one. It really is a crapshoot.

To me Peterson and Bush were the only cant miss prospects. I'm talking RBs that everyone wanted. All those other rbs were decent but they were not on the same level as those 2 when they were drafted.

No one here was like draft Donald Brown, CJ Spiller, Cadillac. But a lot of people here wanted Peterson and Bush. I do remember back in 2004 a lot of people here at CZ wanted Stephen Jackson and I think we traded out the first, moved down and drafted Julius Jones, lol.
