We need a TE on Sunday

He’s...adequate.

But that’s all we’re really going to need as long as he can block, and he can. If that’s “love”, then ok.

We need playmakers outside of Zeke. Swaim has never done anything with a total of 8 catches. If this was anyone's else offense beside JG's I would be warm to the idea. But they only know one way.....

We do, but that doesn’t have to be TE. It could be Gallup, or Austin, or Beasley.

Garrett’s offense has never been the problem, and it won’t be this year if the OL holds up.

We need a TE on Sunday

A symptom of bigger problems.

We need a Backup QB .

We need a TE .

We need a backup RB.

We need backup OL.

... hmmm ... can't be the coaching, can it ?

We got spoiled with Witten lol... We will just need to run more 4 WR sets and H back looks with Olawale. None of these TEs are going to light it up this year. Maybe Schultz and Jarwin step up after another year in the weight room-- but they have a long way to go and huge HOF shoes to fill lol

Rico should be kept for the fact that he can be a matchup nightmare and may add some pressure to teams in the red zone.

Rico is our best option at the present time, play him and pass to him.

i don't know how we can justify keeping Garrett for 10 years . ..

oh .. about the TE, does it matter ? ... if Gronk or Witten aren't here to save the atrocious playbook, does it matter who plays at TE ?

Who really knows what they’ll really look like? The offense hasn’t even played much together. I have an idea...boring 5yd outs and short dump offs over the middle, with stat lines that read:
Swaim 2 -12,Jarwin 1 -11 ect.

Oh boy here comes the Swaim love......

No, I just don’t think tight end is going to have a huge role in this “new version“ of the Cowboys offense. It’s not going to be the same offense we saw with Witten playing the position Then again… We’ve seen several examples of the TE Catching 4–5 yard passes all through the preseason, which, ironically, was a huge complaint when wet and was here (Short game… No YAC, etc).

Don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t be adverse to signing a vet if a competent tight end is available. I just don’t look for it to happen. And if it doesn’t, I’m not worried about the position. I just don’t think it will get as much emphasis as it has in the past.

Yeah we really have to reserve judgment about this team until we see them play. We have some ideas on what the offense will look like, but we really can't be sure how they'll employ their personnel.

For example, from 2015 to 2017 combined the Cowboys ran 0 plays out of the 10 personnel. That's because of Jason Witten's 97% snap percentage. With him gone and the tight ends behind being of much lower quality, excpect the team to run less of the offense through the tight end. Dak will play the point guard role and just distribute the ball evenly amongst his receivers and backs (remember Tavon and Zeke). Elliott has been getting a lot more receiving reps in practice and guys like Oluwale and Tavon are versatile targets the team plans to use at Daks disposal. An upgrade would be nice, but I don't think it's a necessity.

2017 targets where Dez, Witten, Beasley, Williams, and Butler when healthy. And the team refused to switch anything up, from formations to scheme.

2018 targets will be Hurns, Gallup, Beasley, Austin, Williams, Thompson, Zeke, Oluwale. The team will be unpredictable from week to week in the passing game and diverse in their route running and packages. Versatile young athletic threats everywhere with an added emphasis on route running. The lack of tight ends seems like an annoying problem at worse, not a debilitating one.

Problem is our QB loves to throw to his TE and these guys are garbage.

I really don't get what people are worried about with the TEs. None of them are special, and they're not great athletes. Only one of them can block. But all of them can run routes and have ok hands.

A guy like Jarwin is going to be like the dude we had around here 6-7 years ago that was our TE4. We cut him a couple of times and he ended up with the Bills and caught a half dozen TDs or so and had ~400 yards. He ended up being a pretty good TE for them for a year or three.

If I'm worried about the TEs at all, it's that we don't really have two guys for running downs in the two TE sets. We've otherwise got the interior OLs to run anywhere on those plays, but that doesn't work if Swaim's the only guy you can count on to block properly.

With the way this preseason was ran, I will withhold judgement until I see them in a real offense. It looks bleak right now but it might get better.
