In total defense. That's not bad. Take away a few pick sixes and a 100yard return we'd be higher in scoring d too.

I'd say offense is our weakness.

Good post. When I watch these other teams give up scores all over the place....our only missing compnent this year was Tony.

This team has done nothing to help themselves in terms of quickly changing field position. Very few big plays offensively, basically no forced turnovers defensively and not much to speak of from STs.

Thanks for all that. We would have missed it if you hadn't pointed it out.

Yup our defense is good but not shutdown great. Eventually it will crack and break if left exposed. Our biggest issue now is scroing points. To be honest it will be hard for our D to create turnovers by blitzing or playing aggressive if we never have a lead. Until then Rod will continue to play it safe and you can't blame him.

That's using yards which is a poor way to determine defense.

FootballOutsiders's methodology considers far more factors. We are 22nd overall and 18th in pass defense according to FO.com

http://www.footballoutsiders.com/stats/teamdef

And we are 28th in defending #1 WR's.

Does not with the eyeball test look like a 28th Defense nor does it look like 6th ranked defense, not the weakness of the team I will agree. Whomever chose to keep Weeden bears much of the responsibility IMO, he was a deer in the headlights and was easier to defend than any currently starting QB. I find it hard to believe the coaches did not understand the limitations of his talent, same coaches we have now manipulating Cassel.

Exactly.

Anyone who thinks this is the 6th best defense in the NFL needs to have their head examined. Yards given up is simply not a significant metric to judge a defense by. Turnovers, 3rd down efficiency, and scoring defense matter much more.

They lost 4th quarter leads in 6 of our 8 losses! That is AWFUL defense-- I don't care what the "statistics" say. You can make numbers say anything you want to-- leveraging certain metrics to push your agenda.

But when you lose 4th quarter leads consistently-- you are not a good defense. Period.

Here's the problem the last 20 years. This team cannot be good on both sides of the ball at the same time. There's always a weakness that leads to a eventual downfall.
