I don't have to worry about looking ahead. I am not a player. :)

The cowboys are number one in the NFC and we play the next five ranked teams in the second half of the season.

1 Dallas Cowboys
2 Green Bay Packers
3 New York Giants (1 game remaining)
4 Washington Commanders (2 games remaining)
5 Carolina Panthers
6 Detroit Lions

If we win 3 to 4 of these 6 games against top ranked teams and 2 to 3 of our other 3 games our record would be somewhere between 11 and 5 to 13 and 3. We will hold most of the tie breakers. I think we will have home field advantage for the playoffs.

Now if we struggle some against the top five teams and go 50% on our remaining games we would be at 10 and 6 or 11 and 5. That should get us into the playoffs but not get us home field.

If we only got 3 more wins and ended up at 9 and 7 but we beat our divisional foes in those three wins then I believe we would still be a wild card team.

Hopefully the AFC west can pull off some wins for us against Green Bay.

I feel that we definitely need to beat the Giants if we want to win the division.

I'm not saying that if we lose to them we won't win it but it will make it that much tougher.

Cowboys just need to do what we always hear players and coaches say. Take them 1 game at a time, if we do that then everything will take care of itself in the end

I want home field in the playoffs. I am sick and tired of squeaking in and playing on the road in the first round.

7 games into the season... Every team in the NFL with at least one win controls their own destiny. 10-6 teams almost always make the playoffs.

True but my point is we are not at the mercy of other teams because we play every team that is a threat to home field advantage.

I think he means that this team can realistically win that amount of games since this is a pretty good team.

Its hard to control your own destiny if most of the teams you play are better then you.

I agree. If we beat the Giants and at least split with the Commanders then we should win our division.

The Giants are the biggest threat right now. They have several teams with bad records on their schedule and they play NE the last game of the season. If NE has lost a game by then they will not play their starters much.

There is some hope there but if we take care of business with GB then I think we will not have to worry about them unless we get hit bad with injuries. (knock on wood)

Good team go on winning streaks just like we won 5 games before playing NE. It's time we put together another 5 (or more) game winning streak & show the rest of the NFL we are the best in the NFC and can take it to anyone who doubts.

The first half of the season is behind us and so is our 6-1 record. The game against the Eagles starts our 2nd and very dangerous new season. This team must bring a high level of intensity to this game by playing a smart, physical game in all 3 areas--O/D/ST. We gotta cut or eliminate all those dumb penalties, most of which come on the offensive side of the ball, and score at least 30 points. Our secondary must play well. McNabb isn't the player he once was but he can burn us and Westbrook can be a real problem. In this Sunday Night Game we can make our own statement -- NFC look out cause the Cowboys are back in town and we won't take any prisoners.

It's harder to control your own destiny if you suck, but ultimately you still control it.

When I hear "control your own destiny," that means you have at least some say in what happens. If you win the rest of your games and don't need any other help, you control your own destiny. Usually a team doesn't control their own destiny when they could win and it not still be enough. They need help.

The only teams that can win the rest of their games and still need help are the Rams and Dolphins. However, those teams can still go 9-7, and have some shot at the playoffs. Is that likely to happen? No... but it CAN happen. Nobody thought the 0-4 Bills would go 9-7 when we had their 1st round draft pick a few years back, but they did.

Bottom line, it's too early to be saying some teams control or don't control their own destiny.

You can predict orders of finishing, but right now, any team that wins out has a shot.

That is my reaction to "control your own destiny" also.

His point is well taken though. Since we play every one of the 4 teams ranked immediately below us a victory not only gives us a win, it also gives another front runner a loss.

Isnt "controlling your destiny" an oxymoron?

I mean, no one can control anyones destiny, even your own. If it's your destiny it just happens and you cant do anything about it.
