We really control our own destiny

Isnt "controlling your destiny" an oxymoron?


I mean, no one can control anyones destiny, even your own. If it's your destiny it just happens and you cant do anything about it.

It is not an oxymoron unless you believe everything is predetermined. Then it is pointless to argue about it because you cannot change anyones mind because they are destined to think that way. So to argue "your destiny cannot be controlled" is an admission that you can control it. Otherwise there would be no point at all to argue because you cannot change anything. /soapbox

You can control much about your destiny. If someone continues to break the law they will go to jail. That is their destiny because of their willful actions.

The Cowboys can control their destiny if they beat the teams that threaten home field advantage.

Somethings are out of our control like death. Yet even then some people chose to take their life and not wait for old age. Therefore we do have a hand in our own destiny.
