We tried to re-sign Burnett. He did not want to be here, and he was offended when we signed Brooking.

Eaxctly

This isn't Madden where you can just offer enough money and resign anyone you like.

The player actually has a say in the matter in real life.

Well cowboyjoe offers a different story, whatever the case may be he is missed.

I agree. He had trouble staying healthy and was given every opportunity to do more here, it just never worked out.

Always liked him as a player though, wish him well in SD.

Yeah, he showed flashes but let's be honest, he just never was in the lineup 100% of the time...Can't regret players who never really proved it while they were here

If he wanted to be a cowboy, he would be, Burnett chose to go elsewhere, who cares, move on....the cowboys will be fine without him and Ellis...

As he should be, Brooking is not a 3 down player and Burnett could have been. Brooking was signed first before this staff considered Burnett for the role and it just showed what they thought of Burnett. So now we let go of Burnett and we have Carpenter who hasn't shown us squat. And we have another LB that gets subbed in the nickel package.

did you cover you eyes last week or did you just decide to un-see Burnetts horrible game last week cause it doesn't fit your agenda?

In a sense, Dallas even offered him more, since Burnett would have made more money with the same contract in Dallas due to the income tax thing. He really just wanted to leave here.

Exactly.

We gave Kevin Burnett more than enough time to develop into a starter and two different staffs didn't see him as one.

And teams didn't exactly beat Kevin's door down in free agency, either. I really thought a 4-3 team would give him a shot on the weakside.

The Chargers were the only team to offer a contract as far as I can remember and we were willing to match the terms and keep Burnett for nickel duty.

Burnett wanted a chance to become a starter.

As for Greg Ellis, it was simply time to part ways. We needed to find out about Anthony Spencer as a starter and added youth via the draft.

El was just too big a complainer and he would've been an expensive reserve who didn't play special teams.

Jason Williams will hopefully start practicing again this week and we have three young outside 'backers to develop as well.

Jason Williams looks like a promising player...once he gets the mental part of it he should be flying to the ball. I liked his preseason stuff.

he is one of my star young players that i like; beuhler was another player i like in the draft we got

i said after the draft that jason williams will come on about the 8th game or so, now that he was injured, i think more close to the 12th game or so

but jason does have superior speed and a knack for forcing fumbles

Hodge is another guy that I thought had alot of upside but his season got cut short. I'm still hopefull Williams can challenge Carp for that nickel role towards the end of the season if he gets healthy. I though Beuhler was a WTH pick but after seeing the results IMMEDIATELY it's well spent.

If you call consantly bringing in FA as a chance to start then so be it. Burnett should of been the starter last year and he should still be hear mismanagement by our coach staff and front office. I don't want to hear but their coaches an blah blah blah these are the same guys that was running out Brad Johnson.

Burnett never showed the coaching staff that he could be a every down lb. Just the fact that the Cowboys do bring in FA lb's(Thomas,Brooking) should tell you that they were not confident in Burnett.

What does he have to show in order to get considered for the starting position he played really well for us. Especially in 07. The dude should of had the starting job in 08.

It's funny, Kevin Burnett has showed Kevin Burnett in just 3 games.

He blew coverages against Oakland that left Zach Miller wide open.

Had a PI against the Ravens.

And then had a great game today and got hurt.

Inconsistent, flashy, injury prone. Yup, sounds like the Kevin Burnett I remember.
