We still need a 4i

I keep seeing people mention 4i. My guess is that they think the base end position that Red Bryan played in Seattle is 4i which is wrong.
4i is right off the shoulder of the OT. Its a gap not a position

Bryant did gap often as a base end. The confusion is that he did for Bradley/Quinn

Are you talking about someone to move into Tanks role?

I like Sam as that guy but LOVE Derrick Hall out of Auburn as a round 2 target.
No. Sam is definitely not a 4i. 4i is a gap Quinn has traditionally played a DE in run run formations inside the OT off his shoulder. Its usually played by a 3T or a bigger, DE with length

It's a position as in location on the field. What is your GPS position...

4i is the inside shoulder of the OT.

It's not the "gap" played by a base end in a 4 man DL.

1. When did the Cowboys play a 4i vs the run?

2. Mazi often aligned as a 4i.

The video guy even points out when Mazi is aligned as 4i.
Watkins played 100+ snaps at 4i. He got the most out of the Cowboys when they played that gap. They lined up Odighizuwa and Golston there as well. Golston played there against Washington

The inside shoulder of the OT is a gap. All gaps are assigned #'s from 0 to 9. 0 being on the OC and 9 being about a yard wide of the OT

We play 2 DEs, so it’s either Tanks role or Micah’s role.

Call it what you want but we ain’t replacing Parsons any time soon.

Sam’s power and length fit the mold well IMO.

Red Bryant played as a 2-gap DE which included responsibility for outside contain (c-gap).

Players aligned as 4i on run downs don't have c-gap responsibility. It's either a 3tech DT with a wide alignment or a 3-4 DE when the 3-4 OLB definitely has the c-gap.

4i is run formation gap Quinn plays. Its not a traditional DE gap, its more akin to playing a 5T. They won't use Parsons or Williams in that gap. On downs they played Watkins at 4i, Parsons played LB

So basically Bryant was a 5T

Sounds like you grew up playing offense, where every hole is numbered... Typically defenses dumb the gaps down and do A/B/C/D gaps, and 0-7 is more about defensive alignments. I could have both my tackles in 2 techniques heads up on the G....no gap there at all.

My apologies if I'm misunderstanding what you're trying to say.

I can barely ever remember Watkins playing outside so if that’s rare I wouldn’t call it a need.

Chauncey likely fits that mold.

Look in the mirror and stop pretending.

5th graders know the gap numbers. The fact that you think somebody on CZ does not know about gap numbers is comical.

It's like the loading dock worker at home depot that thinks he knows more about the business than the CEO. The dock worker is oblivious to reality.

Played about 100 snaps at " DE", which is basically him playing 4i. I dont have all the data, but Cowboys probably used that alignment between 200-300 times on run downs.

Wow I wasn't even trolling you and I just rent free voucher for space in your head.

Grow some balls, some thicker skin and come back when you want to be a man beta

Yea, I’d consider that very low priority.

Chauncey can do it.

Regardless of weight, Demarcus Lawrence is a way better run stopping DE than any 300 pounder we are going to be able to acquire at this point.

Not to mention that “running downs” don’t really exist in the nfl anymore. Goal line and 3rd/4th and inches are about the only times you can put in a heavy line to anticipate a run. Otherwise you’re sacrificing pressure players for the 35% (or so) chance the team is going to run. The Legion of Boom defense was almost a decade ago now, the league has changed.

Sorry, but it's a hot button topic for me.

I'm burned out by people that lack the awareness to know who they're talking to and to know themselves.

Jerry is a good example. I'm not a Jerry hater, but I would not enjoy working with him.
- He really thinks that he knows how to be an NFL GM but in reality, McClay/Stephen do all the GM work.

I work with a CEO and VPs in a Silicon Valley company that talk to a room of people that are leading experts in their field, as if they were recent college grads.
- The technical people in the room are all far above the CEO & VPs in technical knowledge.
- Much like Jerry, the CEO/VPs are in those positions because they're good at the business side of things.
