We will still need to address the WR position even if we sign TO

Now that Keyshawn is history I really hope that TO is going to become a cowboy, because this could be a DISASTER of epic proportions if some other team trys to stick it to us and signs him. And what team around the league wouldn't love to see us take a blow like that!

Even if we sign TO, now we have to look at other options. T Glenn is a year older and it is taking a huge gamble thinking he will stay healthy consecutive seasons. Crayton got hurt last year as well and we can't assume that he has developed into a legitimate 3rd receiver. Also does this mean we are going to go after Santonio Holmes or Chad Jackson with our 1st round pick? If that's the case we can't assume they will come in and have an immediate impact on this offense.

I'm just not comfortable with this whole situation....what does everybody else think?

I think you are correct. Seems as though we are making more holes than we are filling.

Agreed. We need to get younger at wr. If we don't take one at #18 and decide to take a possesion/#2 guy later in the draft I'm ok with that as long as they address it early in the 07 draft because there are some top flight juniors and seniors in college this year. But they need to get younger even if T.O. is on his way.

Jerry has stressed that WR was a position we were concentrating on all off-season. Now we know why.

Unless there is some other plan that none of us can envision right now, I can't see how we would release Key without having some sort of basic deal hammered out for TO becuase you are correct our WR situation would be a disaster without one or the other.
As far as the draft, BP never really seems to prize wideouts with high picks. With Crayton still developing I think we may take a WR in the 2nd day to develop but I just can't see us spending a hihg pick on that position with BP at the helm.

I agree with you!! I am very nervous about our WR position now. And if we don't sign TO we are in big trouble. No receivers to be scared of.

It's scary because we haven't even signed TO yet and there is already an ominous shadow hanging over this franchise....we've had a few decent signings, but no fireworks yet.....let's hope big things are in store the next few days!

I agree. Even if we sign Owens, we should address WR in the draft to:
1. get younger
2. hedge our bets against T.O. blowing up
The sad thing is, I really thought we could stand pat with Key and defer drafting/signing a young WR until next year. Now, I'm antsy.

I think either way, we are going to move in the direction of speed, and that's good. I think even if we get TO, we could still go after Jackson in the draft.

Or we could draft someone like Todd Watkins, a tall fast project in the 3rd, and Crayton could be our #3 as Watkins comes along.

I have been thinking all day today, that we are not any better now then we were at the end of the year.. we have lost more than we have gained.. now its double with the loss of Key. this seems to be a strange way to make a run at the SB this year.

Is there any doubt TO is coming? The timing of the Key release is the telling factor. TO wants to come to Dallas to please his Brokeback buddy, Michael Irvin, plus he will play the Iggles twice a year.

I don't like it, but I didn't like signing Deion either!

I really thought that was the plan as well, I'm pretty sure that Key and TO would have been able to coexist...but then again Keyshawn still believes he's a #1 receiver based on his comments on his release. I just hope that TO's signature is on a cowboys contract as we speak!

Most mock drafts have us taking Holmes or Jackson at #18....let's hope one of them are still there when our time comes!

Agree. Not happy about this whole scenario. If we cut Key because we have deal in place with TO, that's bad enough cause I wouldn't trust TO not to reneg as part of effort get more money out of us. If we cut Key cause we going after another FA WR so we wanted save cap money, don't see anybody out there still of interest. Of course consider how little the Cowboys have done in FA to date, it would make sense the only way we can get back into the ball game is throw a hail Mary pass--which is to sign TO--which makes me sick.

I was not crazy about WR at #18, but it seems it could be more and more likely...still not 100% TO will be here...call me crazy.

Maybe we get Holmes and Chad in the draft...lol :bang2:

Rosenhaus is a slimy ....if a deal isn't finalized I have no doubt that he's concocting an evil scheme as we speak knowing that Keyshawn has been released....he will probably demand even more money for TO because of this!

We just released 70 catches and 800 yards to save 1.5 million when we have $25 million in cap room to play with. Even if we sign TO, cutting Keyshawn made absolutely no sense.

Have to agree with you here Inman. Now, it doesn't mean we can't re-sign Key, but we are terrible at doing that with our players whereas the Rams and Patriots seem to have it down to a science.

We cut Key because he wanted a raise, not because of his bonus.
