We will still need to address the WR position even if we sign TO

Now that Keyshawn is history I really hope that TO is going to become a cowboy, because this could be a DISASTER of epic proportions if some other team trys to stick it to us and signs him. And what team around the league wouldn't love to see us take a blow like that!

Even if we sign TO, now we have to look at other options. T Glenn is a year older and it is taking a huge gamble thinking he will stay healthy consecutive seasons. Crayton got hurt last year as well and we can't assume that he has developed into a legitimate 3rd receiver. Also does this mean we are going to go after Santonio Holmes or Chad Jackson with our 1st round pick? If that's the case we can't assume they will come in and have an immediate impact on this offense.

I'm just not comfortable with this whole situation....what does everybody else think?
We were going to have to regardless, but this makes it more pressing IMO. Key was 34, but he was professional. We have no idea if TO will be. There are no other real WR options out there and the Draft is WR thin.

We cut Key because he wanted a raise, not because of his bonus.

So its just coincidence that we cut him the right before he was to get a bonus?

Why do you say that Hostile? I thought that his numbers were a bargain, even with a 1mil bonus that was to be paid?

And yes there is no other real options out there, if Moulds is released from buffalo he'll want to be a #1..so that rules him out if TO signs here! Givens, randle el and jurevicious are all long gone as well.

I'm just really confounded by this move...

We just released 70 catches and 800 yards to save 1.5 million when we have $25 million in cap room to play with. Even if we sign TO, cutting Keyshawn made absolutely no sense.

Crayton was on pace for 700+ yards before getting hurt.

Maybe this is just getting younger?

Have to agree with you here Inman. Now, it doesn't mean we can't re-sign Key, but we are terrible at doing that with our players whereas the Rams and Patriots seem to have it down to a science.
May I respectfully point out that the Pats are very thin on WRs--AND a few of theirs have left over the past couple of days.

Has it occurred to anyone that WE WILL DRAFT A WR?!?!?! Whether we kept Key or not, with Key & Glenn both over 30 (or TO, also over 30), it's pretty much a no-brainer that they're looking at WRs in the draft.

Geez people--chill!!! Could we maybe wait until training camp, when we have the nucleus of our team, before we start determining whether the sky is falling?

He'll be long gone by the time we pick at 18, we don't need another pass catching tight end anyway...where would that leave witten??

It's occured to me that we will draft a WR alot in the past few minutes, Kittymama. I just don't like the WR crop this year. If we indeed cut Key to sign Owens (which in itself is getting ahead of ourselves) we're cutting a known contributor for a talented risk. We'd have to be blind to Owens history not to feel compelled to hedge our bets by using a first or second rounder on the very small handfull of Day 1 draft prospects (Holmes, Jackson, Moss, Stovall, Hagan), none of whom excite me. In fact, I'm sick at the thought of potentially passing up BPA (especially LBs like Carpenter, Lawson, Wimbely) to cover ourselves at WR. We could target a bubble Day One WR like Baskett, Nance or Lee, but we're taking a big risk that those guys will be there when we pick.

I didn't love Key, but I don't like Owens, period. My sky isn't falling but it's been polluted by cutting Key. Fingers crossed.

I think this may be the wrong equation though.

Its very possible we cut 34 year old Keyshawn because 26 year old Crayton can do a lot of the same things he can.

Crayton is faster at this point, has better hands, and will go over the middle. THe only thing he lacks is Keyshawn's size and ability to shield the ball, but he gets better seperation so its not as important. He's also much better after the catch.

Ths really may be because Bill felt it was time to give Crayton more time to develop.

Don't get me wrong I love crayton's potential as much as the next guy, especially since he now has a good QB to help in his development. But this was still way too much of a gamble for a team looking to make a deep run in the playoffs.

Keyshawn has many things that Crayton don't...namely veteran playoff experience including a superbowl win!

He's also 34 and getting even slower.

I appreciate everything he did here, but at some point you have to let younger talent take over.

I'm just speculating here, but Bill basically kept Peerless Price completely off the field the first 6 games because he didn't want to take Crayton off of it. Could be the same thinking.

Crayton is my second favorite player on the team and I agree he should continue to develop this year. That is why I was content to stand pat at WR this year and wait for better draft/FA options next year. Parcells recently said that he isn't sure Crayton can be "the guy" since his return from injury last year. Crayton hasn't had an opportunity to change his mind in the past few weeks. Remember, too, that Crayton was playing great early WITH Key and Glenn, not in place of Key...

We better be getting T.O. like it or not.

Enough of this, lets draft a WR. It's not like there's a Randy Moss coming out this year. Rookie WR's rarely have an impact their rookie year

well in my opinion, and this is just my opinion, I think he is the best receiver in the draft hands down...he would be a great decoy runnin in and out of tight end to WR positions.....I don't no i just really like this guy...

Terrell Owens
1290.jpg
Position: WR
Height: 6-3
Weight: 226
Born: 12/07/1973
College: Chattanooga
NFL Experience: 10

Vernon Davis is 6-3 254 Lbs...I think that all though there is a 28 lb difference between the two, i think Davis' speed and aggressivness makes up for it.... and of course there is the fact that he is a play maker....but these just my opinions thats all
